I'm looking to possible purchase a home in Maricopa AZ. From what I read, yo'all have a real mixed bag of feelings for the area. Since I live in Los Angeles at the moment, what ever you all have to deal occasionally and hurt for it, I probably live with daily and don't notice.

Besides the ups and downs of the Real Estate market, and the influx of newbies, what can you tell me about the area? I read you just got a Walmart - thats cool, groceries are important. How is employment in the area? And my goal is to have a small farm - what likelihood of that is there? I know its semi arid and I'll be watering plants and animals daily, is water rationed very often? The property I'm looking at has a Private Well - how often do the wells dry up?

You can work at Basha's, Walmart or Fry's.

People are still leaving California and cities with problems like Chicago so I would imagine with very few new homes being built there is a declining inventory of foreclosed homes in decent areas.

JObs there are pretty much linited to the service industry, stores, restauarants, other small businesses. If you have a well, you don't have to worry about rationing water, it's yours. As far as wells drying up, I don't have information on that-- I would think you could get some info about the well from the seller, who would have some paperwork on it. I know they have to dig DEEP in this part of the country, so it's good to find a property with an existing well . Maricopa is not the place I'd pick to have a small farm, just because it is such dry dull desert. That's not to say it couldn't be done.

How I wish I would have waited a few months to buy. I ended up with an 800 sq. ft. condo in Mesa, when I could have had a 1,600 sq. ft. house in Maricopa for LESS than I paid for my condo. Plus, it's EASY access from Maricopa to my work.

Houses there were selling ridiculiously fast in Maricopa this last year. My realtor and I went to go see a few, and they were snatched up by the time I got home to look at them online again.

A lot of homes in Maricopa were vandalized or stripped before and after forclosure so I imagine there are bargains in a pretty good area cheap.
