I got a vasectomy for my wife. I hope she isn't expecting flowers also.

Taking the girlfriend out to one of her favorite restaurants (Morton's Steakhouse or Avanti) and then coming back to my house for some alone time.

I've heard from others that the Compass Restaurant at the Hyatt is neat.

I've been there twice, one for a business function and the other for a birthday and neither time did the restaurant meet my expectations. The view is gorgeous, don't get me wrong but the quality of the good was subpar. It's not terribly expensive which is a plus but the steak I had wasn't very tender and overcooked for what I specified (medium rare). I'd rather pay $50-$60 for an excellent steak at Morton's than pay $30-$40 for a subpar steak at Compass.

I was about to say the same thing. The food is unimpressive there. Don't get me wrong, the food is good but it's not the type of place that you go there for the food itself. It's not a bad option if you are taking the family to Thanksgiving brunch and want a nice view of the city but in terms of food, it's unimpressive.

If you want something unique and delicious, check out Deseo in the Westin in Kierland. It's gourmet Mexican food...sorry "Nuevo Latino" cuisine. The concept is similar to Rick Bayless' Fronterra Grill. Their chef Doug Rodriquez is pretty famous and was on Iron Chef. I know there are many fine dining and expensive restaurants in the valley. The reason why I recommend this particular one is that it's actually unique and offers something different. And it's executed well so unlike many fine dining Scottsdale restaurants, the high prices actually warrant the experience at Deseo. It's not just another glorified California cuisine or Steak and Potatoes restaurant. Check it out

I like Compass for drinks and a desert after a show - but that's about it

Deseo sounds interesting - i'll have to put it on my list of places to check out
