With a city this size it all depends on where you live. If you make a halfway decent living and do your research on schools, it is a very safe place to live.

Like anywhere I've lived, I can think of many undesirable things about the metro area. High crime or not feeling safe in general is not one of them.

Human trafficking and kidnapping are NOT issues here for law abiding people who are not in the drug/illegal immigration/pornography business; so, that should not concern you. There are many nice areas here to raise a family. The concern you should have is finding employment, which is very difficult in many fields right now.

If you are talking about federal SSI, as a federal program, it should pay the same no matter where you live.

Best of luck to you!

Depends on the area.

I think the question is: Is Phoenix good for adults? Not as good as it was a decade ago. Not to deride people with families, but there is a growing number of people who never had kids and never got married. These people are not into family activities and have to resort to travel outside of Phoenix to where adult fun is. I regard Phoenix as just a place to rest, but I work in other cities. IMO, Phoenix is not good for adults.

Explain. What adult fun do you speak of? Night Clubs? Casinos? Golf? Art? Quality Restaurants? High End Resorts? Shopping?

Yeah, Phoenix has none of that

Mod Cut: Personal attack. With all the cuts happening in this state to balance the budget, I wouldn't recommend this place for anybody who can't make it on his/her own. Unfortunately, I believe the federal SSI program pays Mod Cut the same no matter where they live ... but Arizona's KidsCare program was recently axed due to budget constraints, so Mod Cut would be wise to not move here expecting the state government to be their savior. Doesn't work that way!

Her husband has a decent paying job waiting here. It's really none of our business why the OP and some of her children qualify for SSI. Mod cut: Orphaned. You don't know the circumstances of that, or her family history, or anything else of the sort. Mod Cut: Personal.

$15 an hour might be decent for a single person, but for a family with six children, it's not really considered middle income anymore. Furthermore, it IS my business and yours concerning SSI because you and I are paying for it out of our tax dollars.

Mod Cut: Personal. That's why welfare programs need to be reduced to a temporary status only ... and assistance needs to be cut off to people who keep having more kids than they can afford Mod Cut: Personal.
