New home subdivisions in ABQ had them years ago, but there like here, the California builders moved in with their models and methods and the Cali look predominates. You can find customs and there is a builder of semi-customs adobe styles just west of Estrella around Tuthill Road. Nice homes on 1/2 ac and above lots.

In the far east part of the Valley - Apache Junction / Gold Canyon area, we have some real adobe home.

While I live way farther east - we built a real adobe home and the process of getting enough "bricks" took over a year. This is why some are hesitant to build a "real" adobe - the prep time.

But I must say - it was well worth it.

Yes, real adobe is "well worth it". . . an absolutly amazing building material for this climate. . . why isn't some enterprising entrepenur starting a "green", adobe brick facility on the outskirts of town?

Uh, refer to my post cap1717. That's why! More than 1/2 the people out here don't believe in global warming silly! Or a "green" anything, except maybe a little patch of green kidney shaped yard! If they did, don't you think we would see a lot more solar? I mean, duh!

We did not build our Adobe home (which is also totally off the electric grid) because of any enviornmental concerns (I don't believe in the Global Warming scam).

We built it because .... WE LIKED IT.

No other reason

Soooo true, however, it seems like Phoenix is now battling New Mexico for solar energy company headquarters. But yeah, adobe is for sure a New Mexico trait much more than a Phoenix one. Good luck on your search.
