I'm looking to buy a new Nikon to shoot birds since I'm tired of waiting for a new one in my 7000 series. I need a new camera. This is the first time I'm hearing that a mirrorless would accommodate such a big lens. How much would you say the Z6 with that lens weighs? Since I handhold everything weight is important to me. Can you use extenders with that set up?

I am not sure of the weight off hand , as well as if it isn’t a z series lens there is an adapter too that goes on .
But I will say this ..my wife is very weight sensitive ..she never wanted the 80-400 mm because she tried it on the d800 …
She decided to try the z6 and 200-500mm …she walks around with it for hours with no problem .
I use a monopod but she hand holds it and has no problem doing so.
I have used my 2x extender but the lens becomes like an f11 minimum since 5.6 gets reduced 2x …
It really isn’t practical to be honest ..iso was crazy high for birds and not good ..
Extenders are good on 2.8 lenses where it becomes a 5.6 lens

Thanks so much for this info. It is very helpful. The part about your wife sold me. I'm currently repped out for you but I will be back to give you one.
