Sure.

Here is the same scene at 150mm and 600mm:

Here are a few others:

It eats light, which requires compensating for, and IMO there's a noticeable falloff in IQ after about 400 mm. I think much of that is just the extra impact of camera shake, and the dust/atmosphere you're shooting through at such a distance, though. Overall I'd say at the longer lengths it's preferable to get closer, but sometimes you can't get closer, and that's when that extra 200mm it has on the Canon 400mm is really valuable.

To be clear, that being a 50 mm equivalent via 1.5 X crop sensor , that size is many peoples favorite walking around street lens.

F1.8 should be fast enough just about any lighting conditions . I think with the sensor on that 3300 you ought to be able to take pictures that look pretty good up to ISO 3200 and beyond . I know this because all of the shots I took with my 2006 D70S iso 3200 at both dawn and dusk at Gettysburg National Battlefield with my 50 mm f/1.8.

To that end, I have two answers: number one on my D7000, favorite lens is my f/1.4 50 mm . That being 75mm equivalent on 1.5x DX sensor . I like the tighter shots personally for a little bit more drama as opposed to landscapes . Wide-open, which I never shoot because it gets a bit fuzzy on the edges, the thing is damn near night vision. Must be very careful with that actually if the effect of the shot is ruined; I've taken some shots at dusk and dawn close to wide-open that looked damn near bright as day.

In fact to do that decision over again, I probably would not have spent $300 bucks on that particular lens, and kept my $120 50 mm f/1.8 which I think over the years I took my best shots with .

Answer number two : my Fujifilm X100T has a 23mm f/2.0 fixed lens, 35mm equivalent were it full-size sensor . I must say, that camera has the best use yet of a cropped sensor that is still pretty damn big (APS-C): it takes gorgeous street shots , and decent if not great landscapes . Just walking the streets catching really interesting moments , that lens (and the camera) is my fav.

Below: interesting shot with my D 7000 and f/ 1.4 50 mm lens . Doing what it does best , indoor shots with dodgy light while still keeping crispness and good depth of field for handheld .

Favorite lens - Canon EF 24-70 f2.8L MK2 (Had the MK1 for 13 years and was my fave but just replaced it finally)
Runner-Up - Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L IS MK2 (Had the MK1 before the MK2 as well and that was a stellar lens as well)

Interesting. I have 2 Sigma lenses that I love. Do you buy with the expectation that you're going to sell? I've only had a DSLR for 4 years. So I'm probably newer to this than you. But the thought of selling never enters my mind when buying photography equipment. I just assume I'll keep the stuff forever or took a substantial loss if I ever sell.

yes , every lens i buy is bought with the intention that at some point my needs will change . so far it has been true . in fact i don't own one lens that i had even 5 years ago .

five years ago i owned a nikon 17-55mm f2.8 , a nikon 70-300mm , sigma 10-20mm , tamron 90mm macro .nikon 50mm f1.8

today the line up is totally different :

nikon 28-300mm , just bought this month for our trip to cuba

nikon 70-200mm f2.8 with nikon 2x extender ( to big and heavy to drag around on trips , unless car based )

nikon 24-120mm go to lens when quality and potential large prints will be needed .

nikon 105 macro favorite macro but i may add a 200mm macro one day

nikon 16-35mm awesome when a wide angle is used .full frame cameras can go very very wide compared to cropped sensor view at that focal length .

nikon 50mm f1.4 favorite low light for museums

my wife uses

nikon 18-300mm
nikon 105 macro

35mm f1.8 which is used for low light and gives a view like a 50mm on a full frame

I'm a fan of my 50mm f/1.8 on my D750. I'd have to hunt it down, but I took a picture of our son sleeping one night when he was still a baby and his room was almost pitch black. In post, it came out bright as day. Bit grainy of course, but it shot at ISO 12,800, so I'll give it a little leeway. It's not something I'd print, but it was a decent shot nonetheless for what I wanted.

Outside that, my favorite lens is probably my Nikon 28-300. Good at everything, master of none, but an excellent lens in all but darkness. I drop the 50 in my pocket for that.

i plan taking just the 28-300mm and the 50mm f1.4 to cuba . keep in mind high iso photo's can look great in black and white and the noise and grain is no problem .

so far only time i ran in to where i really needed the 70-200mm f2.8 was shooting some concerts a few weeks ago . i had to switch as it got darker . i was thinking of selling the expensive 70-200m but after that i decided not to , when you need it you need it .

I wouldn't mind picking up a 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8, but I haven't had any real "need" to own them quite yet. My 28-300 does what I need 90% of the time and the other 10% I flip to the 50 or 85 1.8. The off times I've really wanted to have the 24-70, I've rented it.

If anything I think I'd pick up the 24-70. I wouldn't mind having 2.8 to keep on a walkaround lens instead of carrying 2.

I only have two lenses:
Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART
Nikon 70-200mm VRII

I use the Sigma more and is my go-to walk around lens. So I would say that is my most used but my favorite is the Nikon as it just has great IQ but heavy

You don't have anything wider than 35 mm?
Are you using a full-frame camera? Even still, I'd want something wider than that
