Your recommendations for your favorite stitching software? Share or Freeware preferably!

Also, what pano heads have you used successfully with the D40?

Autostitch is free. I have not tried it since the software that came with may camera had a panoramic stitcher.

I use the photo stitching that's a part of Adobe Bridge/Photoshop. It wasn't very good in the past, but it does a great job as of CS3. Of course, you have to buy Photoshop for it.

This is the last one I did, a stitch of 3 macro shots of ice on the window, pretty much as-is after stitching except for a b/w conversion. I was pretty impressed with the preservation of detail.

The PhotoStitch software comes with the purchase of any Canon cameras, P&S or DSLR. I use that every time I need to stitch. It's very user-friendly.

Thought I would resurect this thread. I searched for Panorama Stitching Software and found this. I have a Kiwi Kaidan Pano Head and starting out with my D40X with 12-24 wideangle zoom. I am wondering what else might be in use for panoramas / virtual real estate tours. Don't mind shelling out a few bucks for really good software.

From what little stitching I've done, I've been most impressed with Photoshop CS3. If you already have a copy installed, I don't see a reason to buy additional software.

I presently don't have Photoshop CS3. Does it automatically align and stitch or is this something you do manually? I think the current offering from Adobe is CS4 and I'm pleased to see they offer a trail version so to do a look see of their software.

I haven't tried CS4, but CS3 automatically aligns, rotates, color corrects and matches exposure. You just point it to the images you want to stitch, and it automagically does all the work for you. It's pretty nifty.
