Returning from base after a patrol. Ran into a man with one leg. It's not entirely uncommon to see people missing limbs or digits as land mines are quite common there. Those who were missing digits were always suspicious to us as we thought they were IED (Improvised Explosive Device) makers.

Every Sunday is the day that the middle of the room, we refer to it as the kill zone, is stripped, washed and waxed. We actually had opportunities to use our cell phones at basic training for short periods of time, usually 15 minutes or so.
We were not permitted to walk on the kill zone. When the Drill Sergeant had information to put out to the masses, we would "toe the line" and form a perimeter around the kill zone. This was also how mail was distributed. There is space here for 60 guys to sleep.

A M777 155mm howitzer ready to receive a fire mission. This is an artillery piece. Unlike aircraft, artillery is not affected by weather conditions. In conditions like you see there, aircraft would not be able to fly so you lose the support of aircraft whether it be for offensive operations or medical evacuations or transportation.
someone did not want to move it was cold today and snowy.
