Once, when I was a kid, we watched them from Grandview Ave, around where the Trimont is. (It might've even been the first time they'd done them at the point.) The thing I liked best, and remember most, wasn't the firworks themselves, but the way the sound echoed back and forth in the river valleys.

A couple of other times, (and this isn't a serious suggestion, but it's true), we watched them from the car, parked on the southbound right hand lane of the Liberty Bridge.

The first time, it was just a coincidence that we happened to be going across the bridge just as they started, and decided to pull over and join the fifty other cars there already. The next year, we planned it that way, and had to time it so we were there at the right time. You have to get there just as they're starting. Of course, a motorcycle cop came along and growled at everybody to get off the bridge, so the first twenty cars or so at the south end actually had to leave, but everybody else just acted like they were leaving, and then pulled over again a little farther ahead.

When they were over, we were out of there, and probably home before anybody in town had time to walk back to their cars...

Last year, WPXI showed the fireworks on their channel in standard definition. I was so confused as to why they didn't show them in HD (they obviously have HD cameras if you watch their news cast) that I just turned it off in disgust.

You seem to be a very hard person to satisfy. Jesus, nothing is good enough for you. The local fireworks coverage, the local women, the local chinese food, etc. Chill bro. Relax, enjoy what you got.

Personally, I also can't understand why they wouldn't broadcast the fireworks in HD.

Well, last year, one such person was the father of a three-year-old who got to sleep around 8:00.

This year, we were willing to let him stay up to watch them live from Schenley Park (and paid for it a bit today).
