I've found Weather Underground to be very inaccurate regarding past high temperatures. For example, according to the National Weather Service, 1992 was the first summer since 1976 in which temperatures in Pittsburgh failed to reach 90 degrees, yet Weather Underground also has 1982 and 1984 indicated as sub-90 summers. Also, according to the National Weather Service, July 16, 1988 was the hottest day in Pittsburgh history -- 103 degrees, yet Weather Underground has the high temperature for that day listed as 102. Those are just a couple of examples of the many inaccuracies I found.

This was my first summer here since '05 -- I had forgotten about...humidity! I hate it, and don't know how I stood it before. It probably wasn't bad but it felt oppressive to me.

Where'd you come back from, out west somewhere? We definitely had some humid stretches this summer, but also had some dry heat too, like last week. Last Monday-Wed were 90 degree days but the afternoon humidity was only about 30%. I checked, because I jog after work and 90 is usually my cutoff point to where it's too hot for me to run. But since it was so dry I decided to give it a shot and I actually had some great runs! Sweat actually does it's job when it's dry outside. lol

I do hate humidity, it's like my kryptonite. I actually find Pittsburgh summers very comfortable, but I grew up in Florida so my experience with humidity is quite skewed. But this was definitely the hottest summer since I moved up here in 2006.

I check different locations on weather underground all of the time. They have a few readings from places closer to town and the temps are routinely 10+ higher than the airport. There were a few 99 100 101 degree days.

I'm actually from Pittsburgh, and moved to SoCal in early '06. The summers there are hot; sometimes over 100, and often over 105, but with low humidity.
Even when it's 98-100, you go outside and say, "well, it's hot, but I can still go for a walk or light jog." Can't do that here, my clothes start sticking to my body, and it's just miserable.

I guess I'm still on SoCal weather! lol

We picked a great summer to replace our pool liner! By the middle of June we had already spent more days in the pool then we did all of last summer. No complaints from me.

They don't measure the temps right in the city centers because of the heat island effect. You can't really get accurate "air temp" data when you have that much concrete and steel around. You can still get weather data for urban locations, you just have to look in different places.

I was at a wedding in a tux on that 103 degree day on July 16, 1988. The reception was at some old hall in Oakmont with lousy AC. Yeah, there was a lot of sweat on the dance floor. The summer of 1988 had thirty-eight days over 90. Many of those days were in the upper 90s. It was very dry also, even drier than this summer. 2010 was a hotter than average summer for Pittsburgh, but not one for the record books.

Gnutella, In Athens, GA we had mid to upper 90's from mid-June to mid-August. It was only 90 today and felt quite comfortable!
