That's hardly the point. I'm never in a hurry to get anywhere because I always in plenty of time, but there's still no reason for someone to wait to the last minute to use their signal.

Oh believe me, it's not the most frequent of occurrences but it DOES happen. Compare that to Hartford where apparently turn signals do not exist and red lights are optional. On average I've seen more here than anywhere else which is sad.

I wish driving was like it was in Germany where locals have to take a 6 month course to get their license. Driving over there was a dream because everyone obeyed the rules of the road.

Of course. I'd assume that the drivers would subsidize most of the cost in increased renewal fees, but I'm not opposed to paying extra to ensure that there are fewer lazy and careless drivers on the road.

The main problem is the generally abysmal state of driving "skills" in this country. Most people view having a driver's license as a right, not a privilege, especially given he sense of entitlement that has existed for some time. Far too many bozos behind the wheel, not paying attention, while "driving" ( to use the word loosely!) a 3,000 to 6,000 pound vehicle.
I have noticed over the past few years many boneheads not even using their left turn signal, let alone the right signal.
Far too easy to get a driver's license in the ole USA.

I don't view these issues in relation to my personal convenience. I view them in relation to public health and safety, because cars are dangerous--they are the leading cause of death among people 3-34, in fact, and the third largest cause of years of life lost after cancer and heart disease. And the proper use of turn signals is a basic safety protocol.

If I had known you were going to make a left turn, I would have opted for the right lane so I wouldn't have to wait for you. Thanks.
I am a rabid turn-signal user... dad was a Teamster and taught us all well.

That said, I have been in the car with people who did just as you said.

In THEIR cases:

- they came up to an intersection intending to pass through, stopped, then realized they needed to turn there after all.

- they were NOT going to turn there because of the "No Left Turn sign", then realized it was after 6pm (or whenever) and that they COULD turn there after all.

-they looked ahead and saw unexpected construction and decided to avoid it.

-they forget the bridge closes for sporting events and went to Plan B for parking.

Not saying it is right, but I am saying there are many reasons why...

Drive in the South (where turn signals are used so infrequently that I'm pretty sure drivers get distracted by the blinking when they are used) and then revisit this. I'm sure you'll feel differently.

There are millions upon millions of drivers on the road at any given time, and every single one of them believes all the others are morons...
