Well not really, but had no clue we had a sizeable number of Germans (actual ones, not of decent) here until yesterday when I ran into a couple of hundred of them at the southside works for the World Cup final. (Not that a couple of hundred is very noteworthy, but more then I have ever run into).

Congrats Deutschland

How many points does several hundred Germans get on the liberal "diversity" scale? I'm thinking like 0.02 points per hundred Germans.

Nah, they are in the negative as they merely just add a higher percentage to the dreaded white count.

Anecdotally, I do know a fair number of Germans. Offhand I can think of six families with either one or both German parents. They each came here for different reasons (e.g. marriage, work) and/or are affiliated with different employers.

Also (to continue on the World Cup thing) I've met a lot of South Americans in recent years, especially Argentines, but also Brazilians, Peruvians, and Ecuadorians. Again, there's no one reason or employer bringing them to Pittsburgh.

Large numbers of Germans emigrated to Pittsburgh in the 19th. Century.
Lots of Pittsburghers can claim at least some German heritage.

More recently many have come with the presence of German companies in the
region like Bayer, Siemens, etc.

Germans are the largest ethnic group in America. Unfortunately, they lost most of their "Germanness" in the hysteria surrounding WWI.

Yup. German before WW1 was in a way how Spanish currently is in some areas. Pittsburgh used to have many German schools and a German newspaper.

Yeah, most of the old ethnic groups have assimilated to the point where they have lost the distinctiveness they used to have. Only Jews and Italians seem to have held on to any of this, which is why having a bunch of European ethnic groups is no longer seen as being diverse. They have lost the exoticness they formerly had.
