The Backstage Bar Downtown has no televisions. It's not the greatest bar, but there are no televisions and I think they had a few different East End brews on tap.

Ended up at BRGR in East Liberty. There were TVs EVERYWHERE of course, but no volume thank goodness. We found a seat in the corner away from as many TVs as humanly possible and had a burger. It was pretty good, but to be honest, to have two burgers and two beers for $40 (with tip), it wasn't that good. How did we get to paying that for a burger and a couple of beers? It is really wildly expensive to eat out these days. One thing for sure, don't drink out. Too many taxes on that in our region.

One of my favorite modern authors wrote about his experience with Americans and TVs in bars after he wrote about our culture after living in England for a decade or so.

Also the gym and how we drive 10 miles to walk 5 on a treadmill.

Who is the author? Probably a good read. I never understood the drive to gym thing, unless you are unable to walk and go to the gym for rehabilitation or some sort. There are some that can't walk and go to the gym to swim or other ways of super low impact stuff, but anyway what is the read?

I hate the TV's everywhere thing. It is so hard to find anywhere to just relax and have no media blasting commercials in your face all the time.

Bill Bryson. I think it was Neither Here nor there? It was in his book where he examined American culture coming back from England. His books are easy entertaining read of wit and laughter.

I like BRGR well enough, but my girlfriend and I had the same reaction to those freaking televisions.

I've never paid for cable because I don't really like watching it, and I've always found TVs in bars and restaurants to be distracting and kind of annoying. I thought I was the only one, haha. Guess not.

Well, Captain you and I are in the minority which is evident of TV's in every establishment known to many around here. It is kind of sad, but I suspect the trend will get worse as the next generation is always attached to media and has forgotten how to socialize. It will be interesting.

If you don't seeing a TV at a bar, stay home, it's that simple.

No, it isn't that simple. Some like to go out and actually socialize. Yes, believe it or not some actually like to converse. Sure it is about impossible these days with everyone including bartenders texting, but there are people that like to converse. Yep, we don't all like to stay at hone because 99% of bars have hordes of TVs. How about you stay at home instead? It is that simple.
