Reality is cheap to produce. Scripted TV is not. Network execs take less of a risk on their return by programming reality. Unfortunate economics. If people would stop watching those shows, there would be no financial incentive to produce them.

I personally enjoy some of the talent-type competitions -- there is a history of that sort of programming going back beyond even the 90s to the dawn of the television age. And some talented people get a break. The voyeuristic stuff -- the iterations of "Real Housewives", bachelor/bachlorettes, stuff taking place in New Jersey, aka, all the shows based on "real" people acting badly -- I can do without. But, people clearly like their train wrecks, so we're stuck with it for now.

This is why I love my Kindle.

They're all on CBS instead of NBC

Friends = How I Met Your Mother

Just Shoot Me = Rules of Engagement

Mad about You = Mike and Molly

Seinfeld = Big Bang Theory

Will Grace = 2 Broke Girls

Yep, it is in fact Elixir, at least according to the PG http://post-gazette.com/pg/11277/1179666-100.stm I thought it would be One Shot, but I was wrong. The bridge will be closed intermittently and filming continues until 9pm.

In spotting filming-related vehicles for the next several weeks, look for small Paramount Pictures signs on any of the trucks. That will be One Shot instead. (That is the Tom Cruise movie.) If you don't see the Paramount signs it's probably something else.

The signs pointing the crew to the Schenley Park shoot all say "BOSS", whatever that means.

I'd actually suggest NBC's core comedy lineup on Thursdays--Community, Parks & Rec, 30 Rock, and The Office--is as good or better than it has even been.

Generally, there is more of EVERYTHING on TV these days, if you know where to look. I'm not ashamed to admit I watch both some reality TV and some scripted TV, and there are always more shows I could be watching.

I tried having Beyond Basic cable recently, but decided not to bother after less than a month, because it's all such garbage, especially the reality crap (though I do confess to liking the train wreck that is RHONJ).

I wish I could just get network TV and HBO.

I don't know about you, but nothing forces me to watch reality TV.
