I'm about to take a nap, but briefly:

Affordability - Much moreso than Philly. You would have no problem finding a $100K-$200K in a safe city neighborhood (you could have done even better five years ago). The only rankle might be schools if you were a parent, as the section of the city with the best neighborhood schools mostly runs far more expensive than that. Even with that said, the public schools in Pittsburgh are a mix - not nearly universally awful as with Philly.

Friendliness - People here are much nicer than Philadelphia, IMHO. Overall I'd describe people from Pittsburgh as loud talkers who tend to be honest to the point of bluntness.

Safety - As long as you avoid a few of the ghettos, Pittsburgh is very safe. Even the ghettos aren't anywhere near as bad as somewhere like North Philadelphia, as generally the gangs only kill each other and leave other people alone. You could walk anywhere during the day, and there's only a few places which are a serious risk at night.

Melting Pot - This is one place Philly has Pittsburgh beat hands down. There just aren't that many immigrants here - it's a city of native-born whites and blacks. There are Asian immigrants (both south and east) who come here because of CMU, and many do stay. That said, they tend to be pretty well mixed throughout the wealthier parts of the East End. Certainly they do not form any ethnic enclaves. The most Latino neighborhood in the city is maybe 7% Hispanic. You certainly will see people from all over the world from time to time (my own hood has some Somalis) but they don't really predominate anywhere.

In your title you say, "very clean". Pittsburgh has a lot of litter for some reason. Always did.

Compared to Philly (or even NYC for the matter) Pittsburgh is relatively clean

I think NYC is cleaner if you consider volume of people. I mean can you compare tiny Pittsburgh to NYC? I don't think. Can't comment on Philly. Probably dirty like most of PA.

I thought "clean" was a euphemism for non-ethnic, when applied to real estate. Isn't that what the OP is asking?

I laugh when I see people on these forums say Philly has a reasonable cost of living. I did some house searches in the burbs you can't get crap for under 300k.

There are PLENTY of immigrants and their offspring here that are eastern-European. Yes, they are white, but they are immigrants none the less!
