Boardman is just 30 minutes west of New Castle and has highly rated schools.

It also has excellent shopping facilities, being the hometown of master mall developer, the late Edward Debartolo.

This region probably has employment for your husband, but those positions usually only pay $10 to $13 per hour here. He could register with PA Careerlink https://www.cwds.state.pa.us/cwdsonl...dK4t_jt5vzn9xT , Addeco, Callos, ManPower, etc.

Shopping for clothing and shoes is usually done in PA, due to those items, and also food, not being taxed.

Look into Poland or Springfield Twp in Ohio, Boardman is ok but too big for my taste. Hermitage Pa is also very nice.

I agree with Poland, Springfield Township, and would add Lowellville.

Lowellville gets extra bonus points if you are Italian.

I wouldn't even consider Boardman.

I wouldn't pick Seneca Valley. Looking at real estate values and an expected bump up in school taxes, you might as well move to Pittsburgh. From what I have been reading in the news, Seneca Valley can't stop the spending.

How imminent is a tax increase in Seneca Valley School District? It seems like it has been a rumor for quite some time now. Wouldn't all the new construction be a huge source of revenue in and of itself? Is there a need to raise the millage when they are constantly having new properties added to the tax rolls?

Sorry to bump an old thread but I thought it would be better than starting a new New Castle thread. I've noticed some great housing in the New Castle area that are in gread condition for extremely reasonable prices. Hubby says New Castle has extremely high crime, it's constantly in the news. I compared the crime statistics of New Castle and Sharon, big difference. I told hubby that I didn't mind high murder rates because that's usually attributed to bad people killing other bad people. Even high assult rates don't worry me much. But I am concerned about the high rape rates and extremely high robbery and burglary rates because those are an indication that innocent people are at risk.

So, are there any safe areas surrounding New Castle?

Check out New Wilmington. It is about 8-9 miles north of New Castle and is the home of Westminster College. It is a very quaint college town surrounded by Amish who drive their buggies into town.

The townships of Wilmington, Neshannock, Washington, Plain Grove, Scott, Hickory, Slippery Rock, Shenango, Wayne, Perry, Pulaski, Mahoning, North Beaver, and Little Beaver are pretty rural and safe. Inside of them are the boroughs of Bessemer, Enon Valley, Wampum, New Beaver, Volant and New Wilmington. Ellwood City and Ellport boros are also pretty safe.
