I live in lower burrell pa. I am paying my landlord addional 50 per month, which seems very high in comparison to my family who lives nearby, and uses lots.more, due to laundry and so on. I don't want to seem like a pain to her by asking for a copy of the bill, but its becoming very difficult due to my income. Any serious comments would.be helpful.

You'll have to ask to see the bill. Every township is different. With the upgrading of sewer systems throughout the region, it's very possible it's accurate.

It's effing $65 here for any single-family home, even if I live by myself! There are two of us, but there could also be 10 of us and pay the same amount.

That seems pretty high. Sewage is assessed by the water company. Call and ask them what the average is for your particular address. They have to tell you and it isn't a secret. However, whatever you agree to in your lease falls on you.

Before it got combined with other taxes in our escrow, I used to pay an annual sewer fee of $75 in USC. So $50/month seems like you're getting taken.

Prices for water and sewage vary widely in the Pittsburgh area.

Penn Hills is supposed to be particularly notorious with high rates, so they tell me.

Have you spoken to your neighbors and nebbed around to see what others pay in Lower Burrell?

Also, you might want to keep an eye on your water meter. If its moving when it isn't supposed to be you may have a leak somewhere which could boost rates up.

Your water/sewage bill would not go into escrow. That $75 was probably a tax for maintenance and upgrading of sewer lines.

USC Finance and Taxes

The user fee is what we're talking about. It's billing for the actual processing of your sewer waste.

USC Finance and Taxes

From 2005 until now, the usage fees were part of the water bill.

But that's all changing again. The water company canceled the billing contract. USC hired another company to do the monthly billing starting in August 2012.

So soon, your water and sewage bill will be separate, instead of together.

Many people are confused by sewage bills, not realizing they pay them because it's part of the water bill.

Maintenance for sewer lines is often a separate bill/tax from the municipality. People mistakenly believe that's their sewage bill.

It says the new sewer bills will start on August 1st.

Do you pay the water bill? My water and sewage are billed together by the water company.

I'm billed approximately 130 to 150 every two months.

That's for water and sewage. The sewage portion is higher than the water portion.

The breakdown goes like this:

Water Consumption: $45
Water Service Charge: $15
Sewer Consumption: $24
Sewer Service Charge: $6
ALCOSAN Consumption: $52
ALCOSAN Service Charge: $6

Since I'm billed every two months divide that by 2.

My monthly water bill is $30
My monthly sewer bill is $15
My monthly sewage bill is $29
My sewer and sewage together is $44.

That's not much different from your bill

Every township is different. It's wise to ask your landlord to show you the bill. He should be providing a copy of it when he asks for payment. When I had a rent agreement like that, my landlord would drop off a copy of the bill and tenants would calculate their own payments ourselves. We divided the bill by the number of tenants in the building and then multipled that amount by the number of tenants our own rental units. We came to an agreement among ourselves how to divide the bill.

Seems a tad high to me?? Ask to see the bill and a breakdown of what you are paying. If Landlord refuses, time to start looking for a new rent. My husband and I own a 3,000 sq ft. home in CT and and 2 full baths, dishwasher, and and inground pool that uses boku water in the summer. Our water/sewer averages about $850 a year. If the Landlord has a septic system and is not connected to the city water/sewer then you are in fact paying too much. Find all this out.

i live in wilkinsburg, which shares a water authority with parts of penn hills. our bill for water & sewage (2 person household with a garden) is $90-$100 quarterly, so about $400 per year, or $33 a month. if they truly are charging you for just sewage, that is high, but if it's water + sewage it's feasible.
