Hey Guys,
Random question of the day for you...New resident into the Shadyside area. Anybody know any close places in the area where one can purchase beer? Being from Ohio and having the ability to buy beer literally anywhere was quite convenient...PA is the complete opposite!

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

If you are buying by the 6 pack, you have to buy it in a bar.

If you want a case, you need to go to a beer distributor. There is a beer distributor right next to Chiefs in North Oakland, another on Penn near Fairmount in East Lib, still another on Liberty Ave near Pearl.

There are other stores as well, I can't comment on their quality.

You can buy a six pack (or two but no more) at a bar and carry it out. If you want to buy out cheaper or in larger quantities, you need a beer distributor. The closest one to you is probably in Oakland at Craig & Centre.

There's an app for that!

Six-pack shops are a relatively new phenomenon here. And sixes are expensive (although less than buying in a bar, usually).

Look at the bright side, if you want actual booze or wine, at least you're near one of the only decent PLCB Superstores in the city.

Look in the dark side. They're closed today because of a storm that missed us.

Six packs are also available now in a few grocery stores, in separate cafe areas. I'm not sure there is one really near Shadyside yet, although as I recall the Giant Eagle Market District is trying to set up a cafe area which would sell beer.

There are also specialty bars called "bottle shops" which specialize, at least in part, in making six packs available. Pitt's Dogg'n It is a bottle shop in Shadyside--I've never been there, and heard it is pricey. We go to D's in Regent Square (our neighborhood, not too far from Shadyside), which is a little pricey but not too bad with the six-pack discount, and the selection is quite good. I've heard of people buying six packs at Industry Public House in Lawrenceville--I've never been there either, so don't know much beyond that.

Edit: And I believe The O in Oakland also has a bottle shop.

If you're in Shadyside and want a case, Pistella's on Penn Ave or Palanzo's on Liberty will probably be less of a parking hassle than something in Oakland.

And if you just want a cheap six-pack for a football game or whatever, I have yet to find better than six 16-oz cans of PBR for $5.25 at Armand's (Bloomfield).

If you like your fancier beers, the Sharp Edge has quite a variety over at Friendship and S. St. Clair.

But if you like to drink Bud, Iron, Pabst or the traditional Silver Bullet, you'd be better off just going to a distributor and getting a case.

Thanks for the help guys! How's the beer distributor on N. Craig? They have a decent selection? Cases or just 6 packs?

Is this the place?

Craig Distributing Co - Oakland - Pittsburgh, PA

Thanks again!
