I just used one of the UPMC hospital system emergency rooms. I pay out of pocket and I work as a part time waitress. they sent me a nice big, fat bill. I have no health insurance and I was told by UPMC to go and put in for medical assistance. When I tried to put in for medical assistance the only way I could get it was if I was going to apply for SSI Disability. I want to work not be on Disability. UPMC did not offer to help me in any way at all. I also worked for these people and their benefits were, by far, the worst I ever had. This monopoly needs to start paying property taxes since they own most of this region and have been allowed to get away with whatever they want to get away with. They should have never been allowed to take over as much as they have in this city it is a disgrace. They are not nice people to work for or deal with in any way. Ask them about their "Last Chance Agreements" and how they abuse people with it. Maybe they could cut their blood sucking CEO's salary and then I am sure they would be able to give free health care or low cost health care to everyone in the region.

Applying for medical assistance is just the first step. You need to be denied medical assistance to qualify for funds available at UPMC.

Call back and talk to them about their Charity Care program. Here's a link that will help you figure out what you need to do next.

Financial Assistance for UPMC Medical Care - UPMC, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
