We have some really old bathroom plumbing that we'd like to keep, but it needs to be repaired. Is there an old-fashioned hardware store that has old bits and pieces? PB said that it is the "stem" that is bad.

Thanks, e

PS - Lots of thunder and lightening here on the Northside; I've had the windows open all day to get some fresh air, and it has been a real treat for December.

My first stop would be Keystone Plumbing supply on Brighton Road near the War Streets. There's also another one in Homestead near the Waterfront that I've had some success with.

You could also try Cass downtown on 4th.

Stems can get confusing because there's a bunch of different ones.

You may want to check out Construction Junction as well.

I heard there is a re-use place down near Wheeling that takes and resells old windows, doors, fixtures, etc. Don't know the exact whereabouts, but if you strike out locally you might want look them up.

You could also try Habitat for Humanity's Re-store retail stores. I haven't been to any in this area but when we had a Victorian rowhouse in Lancaster, PA we found old doors, old electrical parts and other things we would not have found elsewehere and it was very cheap.

There is a Habitat Re-Store here in New Kensington, and we've found lots of great supplies for projects like that. Some new, some old. Worth checking out!

There is a plumbing store in Sharpsburg across from the Indian that has parts for older stuff. It is a very unusual plumbing store that way and you could call them or stop by with your parts to see if they have a fix. That is where I go for odd things like that. It is hit or miss though.
