In 1992 the Pirates record was 96-66. They lost in game 7 of the NLCS to the Atlanta Braves. Doug Drabek threw 139 pitches as the Pirates were winning 2-0 into the 9th inning. Stan Belinda was called in from the pen to close out the game. Francisco Cabrera for Atlanta had the game winning hit that landed in front of Barry Bonds and scored Sid Bream from second base. It was Pittsburgh's 3rd trip in a row to the NLCS losing in 1990 to the Reds and in 1991 to the Braves. Also, the homeplate umpire in this game fell ill in the 5th or 6th inning and was replaced. Suddenly the strike zone changed and Doug Drabek started walking batters. Anyways.... How long ago was 1992?

Sophie Masloff was mayor of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh population was 369,000 (Agh County 1,336,000), George HW Bush was still president (Bill Clinton became president elect a month after the NLCS defeat), Jerome Bettis was a junior at Notre Dame, Hines Ward was still in junior high school, Sidney Crosby was 5 years old, Bill Cowher was a rookie head coach with at 3-2 record, Jagr was in his second year with the pens, Lemieux didn't score his 500th goal yet, Pens just won their second cup, Three Rivers Stadium was 22 years old, Bob Walk was still an MLB pitcher, Derek Jeter was the first round draft pick of the New York Yankees, Mickey Mantle was still alive, Ronald Reagan was 81 years old, Silence of the Lambs was just filmed in the Pittsburgh area, Allegheny Center Mall was still a mall, Buffalo bills had lost its 2nd of four consecutive super bowls, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love got married, McDonalds opened its first restaurant in China.

LOL anything else to add?

This is a Zman thread. Is this to be a doom and gloom thread about how Pittsburgh is fading into the third world?

I can't believe someone from Pittsburgh would take the time for a thread title that long and detailed.

Like we don't know?

How freaking conceited.

Besides, there's a Pirates Thread already up and active.

As an aside, in Spring Training 2012, I bet a colleague that the Pirates would make the playoffs before the Steelers. I'm going to win. I should go double or nothing on next year too.
