Good morning
My cousin is getting married in Punta Cana in January! It has a pretty pricey price tag but I have figured out that if we save $300/month we will be ok (minus airfare so we may have to save a little more) It's $950/person for 5 days for an all inclusive trip (food, drinks, alcohol) There is also a 7 day option for $1,300/ person but with us moving this year and fixing up our car, the 5 day sounds more reasonable for our budget and such.

anyways, im looking for a bank to throw this money in the savings in monthly. i know for some banks, you have to have a minimum deposit. my deposit will most likely be under $400/month. I currently go through Dollar Bank, but i'm there too often and do not want to feel the pressure to take anything out in case i run low. it's happened already with my current savings account.

thanks for any advice. i work downtown so that might be a nice option. I don't know if i will qualify for a credit union since my credit is a little terrible.

I use an online savings account for my mid-term savings that I don't want to be tempted to dip into. I use Barclay's, but there are a bunch of others, and you can shop around for the best interest rates. It's easy to transfer money electronically; you can either do it one transaction at a time or set up an automatic transfer every pay period or month or however you want to do it.

My girlfriend has this problem with not having discipline to not drain savings accounts. We came up with a great solution. She opened up a savings account at a community bank that only had a couple of branches on the other side of the county and didn't have a bank card attached to the account. Since her deposits were made via direct deposits, she didn't need to drive there to make her deposits. The bank didn't have evening hours. When she needed money, she was limited to early morning Saturday hours. It worked great for her. When she was low on money, she found other ways to get through until her next pay period.

I prefer using a credit union. Banks long ago earned my wrath with their increasingly absurd fees.
Particularly the big boys like PNC.

Ally is an all-online bank that I've used and been pretty happy with. I don't think they really have any fees or minimum balances.

another vote for online! Capital One is great, but I miss the "orange" theme (it used to be ING Direct, but I guess ING pulled out of the US. they still operate elsewhere).

a few years back, they used to offer an amazing interest rate. nowadays, its not a reason to go with online banking. convenience is, though - incredible convenience, and few if any fees people complain about.
