I think they tried it before, then split.

Nostalgic, practical auction coming when Kittanning, Ford City schools close | TribLIVE

I used to live in both places. Seems odd for them to merge as they had a heated rivalry. But I guess with falling student enrollment they need to.

Hate to see old school buildings go away. Kids tend to like new schools but I treasure the experience of going to those old school buildings with dried out floorboards from the steam radiators. Even my desk had deeply carved graffiti with holes in the upper right corner for an inkwell. They're not exactly Hogwarts but they have character that modern school buildings don't have. Modern schools appear so soulless.

The rivalry is funny in that it meant so much to us but obviously no one else. Not sure about Ford City's future as its main industries are gone. It used to have the world's largest glass factory (PPG naturally) and an Elger plant, both gone now. Never knew what Kittanning had other than it's the county seat. I would think Ford City is like Pittsburgh but in a very distressed state, in danger of dying even.
