I attended a soccer game once, fell asleep twice. If you don't use your hands, it ain't a sport.

So marathons, sprints, relays... half the track & field events at the Olympics... not sports?

I'll agree that when played poorly, soccer (and hockey) are tediously awful to watch. But when played at a highly competent level, among the greatest sports there are.

On a side note, due to the WPIAL playoffs, Buffalo Bills fans have to go twice as far to Detroit for today's game instead of a quick shot down 79 to Pittsburgh.

Only half kidding, just never got into soccer. Just like a lot of people have never gotten into baseball, I always say if you learn the game, you'll see how exciting it is. No doubt the same with soccer.

But I always loved this quote by the late, great Mike Royko:

All that proves is that most of the
world is too poor to build bowling
alleys, golf courses, tennis courts
and baseball fields. There's
hundreds of millions of poor people
out there who still ain't got
indoor plumbing, but that don't
mean there's something great about
an outhouse. Soccer is
boring. I've never seen a more
boring sport.

Mike Royko

As to the OP about a lack of football coverage, every Thursday it seems there is an extra sports section in my paper devoted to High School Football. Course, in the Great White North we have North Allegheny, North Hills, and Pine-Richland with a stadium that most small colleges would kill for.

Indoor soccer was fun to watch back in the day. I liked when the Pittsburgh Spirit and indoor games existed.

Soccer for the most part is pretty boring and the diving/crying/complaining by players is ridiculous and diminishes the game even more.

Agreed. Seems high school football gets more attention and coverage than ever.

SF had gotten a ton of coverage, both in the mainstream media (including both tv and morning radio on a major stations) and in the sports- focused media.

HS football is not hurting for attention in WPa. I personally think it is overblown.

Didn't SF have a last minute (i.e. announced only a few days ahead of time) decision to close the district early on Friday? I know a number of parents of young children that were very upset and scrambling for last minute childcare.
