the gay bars here have far more charm and character. I think that has to do more with the blue collar nature of Pittsburgh than anything else.
Good observation. Have you been to Spin, yet? Maybe I'll see you there. :P

I think Pittsburgh has good nightlife..eventhough it is limited..(that is what I hear from
people from D.C.,Philly,Atlanta and NYC)..but I think it is unfair to compare Pgh. to cities
like New York,LA,Philly or Chicago because of the size..maybe D.C. might be a good
comparision..

5801 used to be NY, NY. It's been completely renovated with a cool neon green color scheme and lighting. I like it a lot, and I've met a lot of really nice people there. The 8 in 5801 is sideways which is of course the mathmatical sign for infinity and their slogan is "Endless Possibilities"

I thought that was cute!

Spin is across the street and down a block across from the Saloon (the straight one). I also like it there, it has a blood red color scheme and the bar is the entire length of one side and it's wavy and red. They make a killer raspberry martini, it's their signature drink.

It also has areas with couches and places to sit down.

5801 serves food until 11 pm I think, I've gotten some mighty good wraps there. They also have a brunch buffet every Sunday.

Do you mean clubs with dance floors? Well, it depends on what age bracket you are looking for. I go to Pegasus every Friday and it is always jammed pack. It's a very young crowd, though. I know the Eagle gets extremely busy every Saturday night. House of Tilden is also busy both Friday and Saturday for afterhours.

I also go to Vice Versa in Morgantown even though I loathe Morgantown. I was just there last night, school wasn't in session yet, so it wasn't very busy, but always fun.

Well, I wouldn't go to Pegasus. You could to go to the Eagle or House of Tilden, they have very mixed crowds. There are still a few other places with dance floors but I've never been to them.

Schizophrenia used to be fun, it was an afterhours bar in the Strip, but it closed I beileve.

As a gay senior (49 going on 50), I don't go out as late as I did in my 20s, but I can say that there is something for everybody. Nowadays the partner and I and our friends are more likely to meet for drinks at happy hour at some of the nicer places around town. And a lot of the bars in the East End cater to a mixed crowd now, so it's gay and straight people together, which is nice. And there is a group of gay guys who meet once a month at a different bar around town, and that group has grown to 150 - 200 people. They just send an e-mail out to their list and everybody shows up. The straight bars love to have us cause we know how to put away the cocktails.
