I can vouch for this, only went once. Having to have that person stationed there also has to hit their overhead..

Very true, it's a nifty idea and a great way to reuse that building effectively. Just haven't made it back.

They haven't had anyone standing at the top or bottom of the ramp in a while. I imagine they did that to help acclimate drivers after they opened. It really only takes a second or two for the light to change when you enter, then you just zip up the ramp and park. It was originally only used by the car dealership to transport cars to storage, so it's a great re-use of the building.

I actually like the garage. I have only driven there once but not because of that. I think it's fun

yes, its fun!

Geeo, those time I've been there (just a few, using a Zip car), it hasnt been "a second or two"! Oh no - once it was 2 minutes, maybe more. I did not mind...but it is impossible to determine what the delay is, though.

I think people refuse to believe signs when something doesn't automatically appear logical.

On my visits, the attendant looked so miserable, and one time, was visibly upset with a driver coming UP the ramp (from my vantage point, I could not see what the issue was). I suspect people get nervous driving up the narrow ramp, and I think that first left turn seems like you would be heading in oncoming traffic, hence the delay.

It's cool, though, and Geeo said it: a "great re-use".

Suddenly I find myself wanting to go to this ALDI just to try out the parking garage!

My father purchased a used car form that building years ago. I remember wondering how the cars made it up to the 5th floor. As a child I assumed there was a car elevator in there.

I do remember - am I correct - no less than THREE car lots in that area. Strange how at the time you don't think of it, but when it's gone, you think fondly of it. Is that a Porsche dealer up the street (much closer to Craig Street), or another luxury car? I walk by their building on occassion - I think their floor space and those cars are just so beautiful.

I wonder if at the dealer at the Aldi's it was equally nice to see the cars behind the glass.

This was the original auto row, back in the early 20th century. Baum/Centre, Craig St. to East Liberty.
