Its a fiction story set in Pittsburgh in 1975 and kicks off in the month of April.

I’ve already done a lot of research from trying to get interviews with people, scouring the internet and asking older family members.

Next up is the library but figured this couldn't hurt in at least making me even more familiar with city during that period.

Soooooo

I'm gonna throw some questions and hope you all respond

What were some of the bad neighborhoods during that decade (same ones now?)

What are some important ways the city differed? (As I didn't grow up in the period I'm of course worried about getting things wrong.....most of all geography related things)

New Kensington would have mob turf back then.....correct? (Already had this question answered but wanted it cleared again)

And just any general information you all can throw?

Anyway looking forward to answers and thanks!!
Did you ever get to start on your book?

Oy!!!!

I know this is major old (somewhat) and I'd forgot I'd made it but so glad I did and learned a lot from it.

As for the book!

I did and then stopped ....but now I'm back on it with heavy editing.

What happened was that I was doing another project parallel to it that was set in a fictional city and then the Pittsburgh was in the 70s.

I scrapped both original concepts and used ideas from both to construct what I'm doing now which is still 1975, I was gonna use the fictional city but now am focused on using Pittsburgh.

I live in the city (like many who commented Im sure did or still do( and well....I'm a pretty young guy and I perfectly understand that it will be very hard to capture Pittsburgh at that time.

BUT

I'm really looking to expand my writing skill with this piece or at the very least it will be a great learning exercise.Anyway, I can say with happiness I am on first chapter and working hard as I can.

Thank you ALL so much for the help and if you all want to throw anymore facts my way or anything feel free to comment or PM.

But yeah THANKS!!

I was told the Bucket of Blood was on Federal just about North. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to drink there.

A lot of wild places on the North Side, back in the day.

Clairton had a bar on State Street called the Bucket of Blood. This nickname was due to the amount of after work stabbings in the alley.

Could be... My memory isn't exactly reliable!

My Grandfather used to drink at the Park House I suppose way back in the 1920's. I went in there once or twice when I lived on the North Side, but, it wasn't really my type of pub. At least it wasn't back then (1986 - 1996). I always preferred old guy pubs.

Found the initial document here, "The Strip": a socio-religious survey of a typical problem section of Pittsburgh, Pa.
