The downtown Winky's was in the Chamber of Commerce Building, Smithfield and 7th.

Wendy's was open by the McDonald's on Wood St. during the 70's, maybe about 78. I don't think it was open by 75.

Don't recall the Wendy's on Wood St back then, but Arthur Treacher's was open at, 801? Liberty. Where Crazy Mocha is now. I used to get hot chocolate there before going off to art school.

I thought Treacher's was on Wood near Forbes.

The Crazy Mocha building had the Original Oyster House.

There were 2 Treacher's.
Wendy's came in 1977. The first one was on 5th Avenue, across from the Warner. There was a Winky's in Oakland, not far from the O. KQV used to broadcast from the window in the Chamber of Commerce building.

Anyone remember Raywell's, in the skinny building across from McDonald's at Forbes and Fifth?
Rhea's Bakery
When Revco was White Cross
Ralph's Discount City
Scoop on Fifth Ave.
National Record Mart had several locations Downtown, including 2 on the same block of Fifth Ave.
Thom McAn on Fifth
The Carlton House
Mel's Corned Beef Kitchen, Uptown on Fifth Ave.

So upon more inspection

Did Morton's Steakhouse used to be a rub down joint called called Gemeni's?

I heard it was.

Yes, the Oyster House branched out into chains a little later, and took over Treacher's space on Liberty.

Thom McAn on Fifth <- so many shoe stores on Fifth!

How about when Rite Aid was Red Shield?

There were THREE camera stores downtown. And several art supply stores.

That building wasn't there back then. Was built sometime in the 1980s?

After telling an older friend about this thread, he suggested I try to see who knows this:

"I listen to the new sound of 13Q!"

(I have no idea, either!)

Sad to say, I do.

13Q was known in Pittsburgh for its "Cash Call," an ongoing radio contest via which one could win a jackpot that started at $1300 by answering the telephone "I listen to the new sound of 13Q" when the station's disc jockey called. If the party did not answer the phone with the prize winning phrase, 13Q increased the jackpot $100 for the next prize. Thus, perhaps thousands of Pittsburghers answered their telephone with the unique phrase, though the chances of winning were slight.

I recall they also played the records slightly faster than normal.

The more important question is, did you answer your phone that way?
