I like how we're skipping the part in the articles that talk about how most of the violence is from special education students with diagnosed disabilities. How naive do you have to be to think that teachers aren't assaulted all across the country by a certain percentage of special education students, from all kinds of backgrounds? It's not an acceptable part of the job, but it happens everywhere. Talk to teachers some time, rather than just whining about their pensions.

Yes, invest in the 'private' schools that can be choosy about who they pick. You get amazing schools like St Bart's in Penn Hills who openly discriminate against disabled children.

I didn't hear about that in the video I posted. Maybe I need to watch it again? The other articles are old and outdated and more isolated. This is 10 separate attacks that are documented. I think that shows things are getting worse.

I have a friend who used to teach Spanish in Woodland Hills. She had major issues one year with a second-grader who would attack her in class. She ended up leaving the system due to these safety issues and now teaches in Shaler SD.

This IMHO just proves my theory about Internet/smartphone garbage. All the crazy live videos they are watching is really having an effect on these young minds. Second grade! What a shame. You know plenty of second grade kids are watching the same crap as teens on these devices. There is no stopping it. Shaler is a much better district so I am glad for your friend.

Private schools can also throw a student out. They don't have the same set of rules, they are private. I know Shady Side is expanding like crazy and will continue to do so. Private schools will be huge in our future. The bad things will happen at the poorer districts first and move up the line.

Woodland Hills school principal placed on leave | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

This is the print article version of your story posted in response to you earlier in the thread. 11/6/2015. Not outdated, not old, but the exact same story about Woodland Hills teachers. It says straight out that the problem is from special education students, as would be expected when talking about K-3 students and the types of attacks discussed (scratching and biting). All public schools of any size that have to take all students will have problems like this (as opposed to those who are allowed to discriminate against the disabled). Some schools with better funding have more money for more specialists to deal with them, but it's going to be something more in the light now that inclusion and mainstreaming is increasingly required in public education. What's your solution, keeping the severely autistic and other types of disabled students out of schools?

http://www.post-gazette.com/news/edu...s/201511070053 - Here's another one from today. Again, it's about special education students.

Quote:
In addition to the leadership change, Mr. Johnson said the district will increase the number of paraprofessionals at Edgewood and review individualized education plans for all special education students there.

Mr. Johnson said Edgewood, which has 455 students in grades K-3, had an increase in the number of special education students this year, including a group of 15 to 20 students who entered kindergarten with IEPs, instructional guidelines that are crafted for special education students.

Yes. A secondhand anecdote by a poster on city data proves your theories about the internet and the cell phone and how they are causing elementary school kids to attack teachers. It's obvious to us as well.

It sounds like the problem here is inadequate staffing and perhaps poorly implemented mainstreaming (which is often poorly implemented due to inadequate staffing).

Shhhh. It's OK. The judge, Wettick, who created the Woodland Hills monster, "cares deeply for common man".

Meanwhile, the a$$hat judge lives in a rather nice $600k house on S. Linden Ave.

What we're witnessing here is the institutionalization of the cross-generational underclass.

A> Convince people that public schools are dangerous and that only people who don't care about their children send them to public schools.

B> Create a system of privatization that can siphon funding from public schools, i.e., charter schools.

C> Dehumanize via labeling the remaining kids in public school (special needs students acting out becomes "kindergarten students are physically attacking their teachers!"), and deny them the opportunity to succeed even if they want to.

This sort of thing has been par for the course in places like New Orleans for a long time. Sad to see it here.
