It's about ****ing time.

Maybe they can reconfigure the Squirrel Hill/Homestead interchange while they're at it.

I'll not believe it until they block the streets for the pre-demolition work.

The Greenfield Bridge is a city project, and parkway east work would be a state project, since it's an interstate highway. PennDOT has a list of priorities (a five year plan, or something), and I don't believe a reconfiguration of the interchange is on it.

This is going to make Squirrel Hill at 5pm a nightmare-- SO many people use that bridge to get from Oakland to Greenfield. Traffic is going to be way backed up on Hobart / Wightman / and Murray.

I hope they have some plan for rerouting all the traffic.

I think the Greenfield Bridge has federal funding. It definitely has PennDOT involvement, so it's not a 'city' job, if that is the meaning you intended.

Per J_Church's comment (above mine), I read that there is a public meeting at a nearby church some time early next week.

I agree, it will be a hassle, but i guarantee a couple hundred people are going to be enraged and feel violated because they will only have heard about the closures the Sunday evening before that work week. Hundreds more will have not planned for any changes in their route, nor for any alternatives to their daily commuting routine.

I think they need to consider the effects on traffic far beyond the bridge, particularly at Hazelwood Avenue/Browns Hill Road and at Second Avenue/Irvine St./Greenfield Ave. I don't think its preposterous to outline such a wide area traffic diversion (or traffic relief) plan, but no one would want such an undertaking.

Right, which is why they're doing it when they're doing it, when at least a minority of people have vacation time or limited schedules and don't have to do the 9-5 every day. Which means fewer cars on the road.

But that's just the actual implosion. Sounds like there won't be a bridge for 18 months meaning the detour traffic is going to be a nightmare for a long time! "The structure is scheduled to be completed 18 months later in mid-2017."

So does 18 months really mean in Pittsburgh repair time--5 years? How long was the Squirrel Hill Tunnel supposed to take? Or Route 28?
