And thouse suburban forces can afford to pay more because they don't have to run academies to train their officers. They are using the cities resources.

Pretty sure it was already pointed out to you that there is an academy/s in da burbs.

Could be wrong but I think there is one in North Park. There used to be, anyway.

There is indeed one in North Park. I hear them on the gun range quite a bit. They use soccer balls as targets.

I guess the city just does a great job of training its folks, thus creating their own issues.
I don't think policing in Mccandless is much different from policing in the city. The motorists drive like knuckleheads in both places, you'll see the same kind of domestic brouhahas, and some people will still seek 5 finger discounts at the local bodagas. Teenagers act out in both areas, and there are Get Go's and donut shops to hang out in, in both locales.

I think you are right that the police in Pittsburgh are pretty well trained, but they don't get a lot of love from police review boards and the like in the city.

Sounds like an opportunity to work smarter rather than harder and make more $$$ while doing it. No-brainer, really.

That is the Allegheny County Police Academy, which trains the county police. Your local municipalities do not have academies.

So they can't get a job in a municipality after going to the County academy and becoming an officer?

No, it's not just for the County Police force.

"The Academy was built with the vision of providing all training for police officers within Allegheny County. There are presently over 120 police agencies within the county. The Academy has fulfilled that mission and beyond. The Police Training Academy is assisted in its mission by an Advisory Board of Allegheny County Chiefs of Police.

The Academy is committed to training all new officers and aspiring personnel the required Act 120, and also providing Mandatory-In-Service Training for all active duty police officers."

My hunch is that a police officer who has done duty in both of those locales would report a far different story, but we are both guessing. Surely you aren't making the argument that McCandless cops see a variety or quantity of crime equal to a city cop? Because that sure sounds like what you're saying.

I have never been pulled over by a city cop for a traffic violation, but I have been pulled over by plenty of cops outside of the city. My friends report the same. It would seem from my own personal experiences that city police have MUCH different priorities.

Also re: your claim about city cops getting community support... check my link above. The chief said a week or two ago that community complaints are way down.
