Nah - that was a random thing between street life people, probably. Chances are good something like that would transpire in that area, as dense as it is with comings and goings.

I don't think this is a large concern, meaning part of a bigger trend or something.

Trend? How much violence has happened at that location. Clearly it is a trend and that location is not safe.

It's been pretty quiet down there. I think this school year will tell if things are improving. Seems this was too adults fighting and one had a knife of course. Lucky it wasn't the usual gun. Not sure why people fight anymore knowing that they can be shot.

I'm sure crime is relatively elevated - on a per square meter basis - in Grand Central Station and Times Square too.

Any time you have an area with lots of people coming and going, there will be more crime than someone with almost no one around.

The real question - which is harder to quantify - is how much crime happens in an area per person who happens to be there at some point during the day.

There are other places in downtown which are as or more busy which do not have a similar amount of violence. Until people come to terms with that fact and address the real cause, the problem will remain.

I literally just waked down through the area of 6th and 7th and Liberty, especially near the T station, it just felt like something was ready to happen.

I'm going to agree with Enough_Already that there certainly has been enough violence at the Wood Street T station already.. This is a recurrent problem and that location is probably the most dangerous location in downtown.

Exactly. There isn't the same amount of problems at Gateway or at Steel Plaza like there is at Wood Street.
Smithfield St can feel skeezy.. Market Square can as well sometimes. Fifth Avenue in Uptown certainly does as well. I don't feel unsafe at those locations though. I do feel unsafe at the Wood Street T station though - particularly at the bus stop on its Liberty Avenue side.

It's a good idea to be really careful with all the thuggish types who go to the Benedum Center and Heinz Hall hanging around in that area.

How does one identify a "thuggish type"?
