I tried to find an original thread to put this in, but most of them were pretty old or pessimistic, so I felt no need to dig those up.

Shell moves ahead with ethane cracker in Beaver County | TribLIVE

It took long enough, but construction to begin in 18 months. This is great news for that area and the region as a whole...

Wow, I'm not exactly shocked but this is huge for Beaver County, and the region as a whole.

6,000 jobs, awesome.

Good to see jobs coming into a struggling county in Western PA. Most of the resulting air pollution from this plant will likely skirt Pittsburgh altogether, but I wouldn't be that excited by this if I lived in SW Butler County. Our prevalent weather systems are going to carry any air-born particulates right over that growing exurb. Between that and all the fracking in that area... this will be a good test case of how a lack of emphasis on environmental protections can affect an area in our modern times.

At least smog won't be an issue in this area....

These are chemical compounds that can react quickly in sunlight to form ground-level ozone, or smog.

I'm not sure how bad pollution from a plant like this will actually be. It CANT be worse than a coal power plant, and it is 2016, so EPA restrictions are much more stringent than they used to be.

This is big news, really huge. Shell has already spent more than $100 million to prep the site before even making a final decision on whether to proceed. With the cracker located here, there will be other manufacturing plants interested in locating nearby to make their products. This is something the people of Beaver County have been wanting and they have welcomed it through this long approval process.

I think a buddy of mine in high school dated that girl, Shelly Cracker. After a few months of their being together, I hardly saw the guy - he was always in a clinic, loading up on prescriptions for cremes and pills, for some reason.

Probably from all the pollution that still lingers today.

I expect no one but activists will notice a difference with this new facility. Great news for the area.

Wow this is huge news for an area that hasn't had much going for it for over 20 years. Specifically, it's going to be 6,000 construction jobs and 600 permanent jobs according to the PG.
