Three Ohio franchises have entered the Pittsburgh market for those that are interested.

Graeter's Ice Cream (Cincinnati-based) is now open on Perry Highway in Wexford. Ice-Cream Alert: Graeter's Scoop Shop to Open in Wexford - The 412 - June 2016

Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar (Kent-based) is now open on 19 in Cranberry. Very reasonably priced and quality Smoothies, Juices, and Wraps/Salads. Please go check them out if you live or work in the area. Pulp Juice And Smoothie Bar | Fruit Smoothies, Fresh, Made-to-Order Wraps And Salads

Piada Italian Street Food (Columbus-based) will be opening at Forbes/Meyran in Oakland. This is the Chipotle of Italian food. I thought they were supposed to open this summer, but it looks like November.

Advice from a born-and-bred Cincinnatian, don't get any ice cream from Graeters that doesn't have chips in it. They make small pots of ice cream and pour molten chocolate in as they stir--sometimes you get a chocolate "chip" the size of your thumb.

Very true...I had the Buckeye Chocolate Chip and I'm pretty sure I needed a knife to cut up one of the chocolate chips because it was huge.

Might have to make an ice cream run to the North Hills to give it a try. Can anyone attest if it is worth a tunnel and two rivers for this ice cream?

Am I the only one who thinks Melt looks disgusting? Never had it, but love cheese, and I am even turned off by the looks of some of their food.

I wonder if the big, bad, Eagle scares them away. There has to be a solid reason for why they haven't tried to enter Pittsburgh yet.

I think Melt will find a spot soon enough. They're (at least) looking. It looks like Winking Lizard was "discussed" in 2013 for Pittsburgh, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

"The owners would like to open more restaurants in the Columbus area, where only one currently exists, before moving into the Dayton and Cincinnati markets. They’ve also discussed the Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Chicago markets."

“There’s so much opportunity in Ohio, we’ll stay here,” Lane says. “We don’t want to get on a jet plane to visit all our stores. We get calls weekly from people as far away as California who want us to open a store near them.”

I cannot attest to whether the drive to Wexford for Graeter's is worth it to you. I have a sweet tooth and will basically consume any type of ice cream, so I cannot say whether it's "good" for others or not. Graeter's is sold at Market District and Whole Foods, I believe, if you're near one of those and would rather try it there first. Although, if you're feeling adventurous and on a nice summer night, make the drive to Wexford.

I enjoy Melt and have eaten there plenty of times. I do have a friend that has never been impressed, though.

I've heard rumors that there was a deal made between the two because Giant Eagle wants the territory. Again, it is only a rumor.
