I don't think any of the people they talked to moved from NYC or SF, but maybe I missed one. I also didn't see this as cheerleading any specific neighborhood revitalization. I also don't think they are giving credit to new transplants over long time residents.

Progress must bore you if you tire from these articles.

I think the results basically show that if you are very bright you will do fine regardless of the school.

What I am unsure about is the middle of the road kids.

I didn't know OKC was ever blighted in the first place. Never been, but I always just assumed it was a newer growing city that hadn't really had ebbs and flows. Shows what I know.

These are fantastic - thanks for posting.

I saw photos from Medellin an acquaintance took on his Christmas vacation to visit family there. You should see how they light up that river during the holidays. It is impressive.

The rendering in NYC is inspiring, too. It makes me think we can have a pool in an ideal location that takes advantage of the view , like maybe somewhere in Elliot or Sheraden.

These are great times for our riverfronts - popular with locals and visitors, used and enjoyed often, and the surfaces are rather clean enough (despite the geese).

Default Pittsburgh, Top City for Rising Start-Up Capital

We're not there yet, but the change happening is real.

Quote:
The Bay Area comes in at No. 1 on this list, with a ratio of 11.2% of companies funded divided by the number of startups. It’s a steep drop to Boston at No. 2, with 5.65%. More interesting is Pittsburgh at No. 3, at 3.59%. A caveat with Pittsburgh: of the 40 metro areas examined, it carries the second-lowest startup density, only ahead of Cincinnati. So for its size, Pittsburgh has a well below-average number of startups. This is likely due to the age of the population in Pittsburgh’s metro, which is old, with a median of 43 years, compared with metro areas of San Francisco-San Jose, whose median is 36.6 years, Chicago at 36.8 years, New York at 37.9, Boston at 38.7, or Los Angeles at 36.1. With a higher percentage of retirees and people aged past 50, there are fewer people likely to found a startup in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh also has a very low average investment size, at $2.1 million, multiples less that of the Bay, at $20.6 million, or many other cities drawing larger amounts of venture capital, such as New York, whose average investment is $14.6 million or Chicago at $12.7 million. The next three up in terms of funding percentage, after the Bay, Boston and Pittsburgh, are: Austin, San Diego and Seattle, at 2.6%, 1.8%, 1.7%.

Investors put $279.6 million into new Pittsburgh-area companies last year

Pittsburgh had $83.4 million in venture investment per capita in 2015, which ranked 18th among other metropolitan areas nationwide. In a commonly used metric of investment vitality, the region also ranked fifth nationwide in number of venture rounds per million residents at $39.5 million. Feeding the entrepreneurial pipeline were the 122 patents issued and 297 licenses, options and other agreements granted in 2015, according to Jay Katarincic, managing director at Downtown-based venture capital firm Draper Triangle Ventures.
