The latest phase of the Heinz Loft project turned out pretty nice. I really like the micro kitchens and white appliances.

Heinz at 950 adds 151 new lofts to former H.J. Heinz complex - NEXTpittsburgh

The Cultural Trust apartment project to start construction in June. At the same time the Pittsburgh Parking Authority has narrowed its search for a mixed used developer of the 9th and Penn garage site. Interesting.

Chatham Center apartment conversion. This makes sense. The isolated office complex always seemed weird to me. Hopefully this complex can open up to the lower Hill development.

Trader Joes is expanding into the former Relax the Back space next door. This will add 3300 sqft to the tiny store.

Baumhaus will be done in June. It recently got WSJ coverage (behind a paywall sadly). 127 units, with studios at $1,500 per month. I didn't realize it was a micro building though - the studios are only 380 square feet. That said, they come pre-furnished with weekly housekeeping and linen/towel service, so it's more like a hotel you sign a lease for.

It looks good too. I did not realize it was adjacent to the threatened church on Centre Ave. Micro furnished apartments?? Who knew?

The entire Centre / Baum corridor is finally changing. The UPMC owned warehouse is under construction along with the building across the street. I remember when Centre and Baum was car dealership row. I purchased my first car from Spitzer Nissan on Centre ave where Pep Boys is now.

I saw the WSJ article and looked at the apartment layouts on their website. They also have furnished three-bedroom micro-suites where each bedroom rents for $1,104 - $1,219. Not sure how that works, but it must be co-living.

The building itself is well designed and it's a good addition to the Baum-Centre corridor.

1 micro bedroom for $1,104.00. This building must have some amazing common areas. I could never rent new construction. I refuse to pay that much money for anything I do not own.

Yeah, besides Baumhaus there's the Emerald On Centre building being constructed just a bit up the street from Market District, and the huge Empire project at Centre/Craig in North Oakland. There's also a big office project and a new parking garage planned where the Aldi and Crazy Mocha are today. A few more projects of this caliber and you'll start getting more of a cohesive streetwall (and even local skyline) in the area.

I'm guessing their market isn't really young professionals, but wealthy college and graduate students.

You would be surprised at how urban the Baum Centre corridor looks from above. the older apartment blocks still dominate. Speaking of local skyline......The Strip District looks amazing from Bigelow Blvd. The Three Crossings development beat my expectation by a mile.

I just saw that Buncher put in for a zoning variance for the first of its new office buildings in the Strip. It will be four stories, which is decent. Unfortunately, it will have 150 surface parking spaces. Buncher really doesn't seem to know how to do urban development.

more like the market demands parking spots...rich lawyers and engineers don't take public transportation as much as those in this sub likes to think.
