Is it one of the EDMC schools? If yes, then certainly mostly a scam.

I think the mistake most people make is thinking their diploma and school gets the job. You have to build up a portfolio of your work to show an employer.

No offense, but isn't photography something you can learn on your own? Googling, pursuing a related internship or job, or learning as you go, etc.

I am just questioning a commitment to higher education, especially at the Art Institute (which I thought closed) to learn photography.

I would suggest a dual major at Point Park University, with film, or business, or something that would pad your academic cred.

I used to work as a line cook with a young guy who was working to pay his way through that school. He did and graduated. I think that was about 6 years ago. He still works as a line cook. Not sure if the school is to blame or if they guy just really decided he wanted work double shifts as a cook, with no benefits of any sort, for the rest of his life.

Shame really. He is a pretty smart guy.

I went here for design and graduated, got a great job. I'm not a fan of the school's practices, and I don't know if it has improved at all after the lawsuits, but I will say that I got a lot out of going there. Design specifically. It seems to me that if put yourself fully into it, take advantage of the advanced courses, and go for internships, it can be good there. The only thing is that not many people made it all the way to the end. The big problem is that they accept a ton of students who have no business being there, give them loans, string them along until they flunk out. Most people I started with didn't make it all the way through. I think I graduated with maybe 20 people (yikes)? All of us got good jobs though that came out the other side.

As with anything, it's what you make of it.

If you're thinking about the art institute, I think you should also look at an arts degree from CCAC. I'd imagine it would be much cheaper than a for profit school as well.
