WTF? First-class amenities for city workers? Like what, a fitness facility, juice bar? What?
Working elevators, modern heating/cooling, modern lighting, etc.

Have you been to the current building? It's pretty awful. Or do you think of City workers as not being deserving enough to work in an office that's been updated in the last 30 years?

I had to go to the zoning counter once. It was shocking how run down the structure was. You'd think we were in worse shape than Camden or East St. Louis judging by the building. And it's actually the building that developers have to go to for hearings, meaning it's the taste that they get for the state of city government. Which means it's currently an awful public face to the world.

I have to agree here, if anybody's been to the city county building you'll know what they mean by modern building design/accommodations.

Agreed and you are not exaggerating. No one who has been in that building would say "Sure, this is fine". I have been to that floor and visiting the URA hundreds of times and it is really, really miserable.

The City County building isn’t far off.

There is at least a shabby grandeur to the city county building which that building lacks entirely.

The exterior of the building is beautiful, and the main lobby can show off its former grandeur..

but norcider, have you ever been in an office inside that building?! they are.... most unimpressive, to put it kindly.

Yeah I have, got our Quaker's license there! I believe the person handling our case was smoking the whole time as well! I do love the architecture and have a sincere appreciation for history, but the working conditions in some of these city agencies is pretty rough.

I’ve been there twice in the past 6 weeks for a project at my house. The electric fans hanging from the wall and the stale air really hit you in the face. I can’t imagine working in an office environment without air conditioning, no reasonably functioning bathrooms, and single pane windows which I am sure make the winters very pleasant.

A lot of we city workers make <$30,000/year to live in an increasingly expensive city, yet taxpayers STILL think we’re “overpaid”. Luckily since the city can’t find enough qualified applicants at these wages my office offers a ton of overtime so I can afford to live here, but I digress.
