Did you graduate college to work at this specific type job, or did you go for something else?

The County pays more

But 40 million for a building downtown doesn’t help the workers. You need to pay to Park or spend time and money waiting for somebody else (the bus). Wouldn’t be better to spend 40 million building a new building on one of the many vacant lots in the hill district or elsewhere in the city and offer employees free parking instead of taking prime real estate off the tax rolls?

People from all over town need to have access to this building for services, hearings, and other events. Many people do not have access to a car. Having a building outside of downtown and inaccessible to public transit is a non-starter.

Do you have data to back up this claim (most people don’t have access to a car)? If so please share it.

That is a common sense statement. It is logical and measured, therefore it will be lost on those who live under bridges.

I am not sure why I would need to provide statistics to back up a claim I did not make. I used the word “many”, not “most”. My word choice was purposeful. I can substantiate my claim “many”, which is fairly ambiguous, purely with observational evidence.

I ride the 88 bus nearly every day. I’ve ridden the P1 for years, and probably have ridden 15 or so other routes at various times. Anyone with two eyes who has been on a PAT bus has encountered many without a car or without easy access to one. Let’s start with the elderly. Add in some element of the poor and the disabled. Not everyone has it as easy as those of us who have the means to own a car.

Again it is just your opinion. People adjust and figure things out. Taking this high profile downtown property off of the tax rolls is just silly. Plus the lower paid city workers have to pay an arm and a leg for parking.
