I was recently hired for a position in Monroeville and was wondering where's the best place to live? I'm moving from a decent suburb of Buffalo and would prefer much of the same environment (no desire to live in the city of Pittsburgh). I'd like to keep commutes under 10 minutes, but I saw how bad traffic was the few times I was there, so that's probably wishful thinking. I'd also like rent to be less than $950 per month. I've read through other posts and found mixed thoughts on living in Monroeville itself.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Living in Monroeville is fine and you'll find lots of options within your budget. The traffic isn't fun anywhere and if you live elsewhere you'll just be driving into it for work and a commute time of ten minutes is unrealistic. Traffic in the eastern suburbs is pretty heavy. If you live in Monroeville you'll have anything you need right there.

If you're set on a 10 min. commute and you will be renting, then you should stay in Monroeville. There are plenty of nice apartment complexes there. If you are buying a house, I would consider Westmoreland county (north huntingdon township). It's about a 20 min. commute and taxes are less than in Allegheny County.

I've been reading what everyone has said, and I appreciate the replies. It's tough picking out neighborhoods with no word-of-mouth advice. I have been looking at apartments, does anyone know anything about Eagle Ridge Apartments (or have suggestions for some other good places)? I've read some equally nasty and stellar reviews about every place online.
