A demo permit is out for the building as well. They have a big parking lot there. I wonder if they have plans.

In retrospect it makes me even angrier they knocked down that Fort Pitt Candy Company building though.

That McDonald's was just awful. There were so many times we tried to walk inside but were met with either a sign on the door saying "Closed Due to Staffing Issues" or "Drive-Through Only" (and these occurrences were during normal business hours). The last straw for me was New Year's Day when I tried to go, they were supposed to be open, and they were closed---again. In addition they would often screw up my order and/or be rude to me. I was hoping that McDonald's would be razed and replaced with a mixed-use mid-rise for a while now, and it will be interesting to see if that's what happens since this is a decent-sized parcel.

I don't feel too badly for the employees since I know the two nearby McDonald's locations Downtown are always hiring, and they're both an easy walk or bus ride from this location. The McDonald's on the North Side is usually ON POINT (is "on fleek" still something these whippersnappers are saying nowadays?), and it would be great if other locations could learn from them.

That is pretty good news - it seemed inevitable too because the land is probably too valuable for a standalone fast food joint now. That McDonald's always seemed like such an eyesore, and very very out of place in that location.

Glad to see McDonald's close as well, so out of place. One good thing Mickey D's does is when a store closes, they tear the building down. You'll never see an old store converted to something else. NOW, if they could just rip up the asphalt and expose the brick on Smallman street, miss that look.

What restaurant group do they belong to? Pretty sure its the same group. Mediocrity won't survive. Replace it all with better offerings. That's what happens in a real food city.

Didn't they close up shop? I read in Post-Gazette they were to close on New Years Eve and that a Tooties was to take over the spot in the spring.

Although Yovis is supposed to continue having a food truck operating downtown.

Well, that's all our downtown has left, really.

Any news of the proposed movie theater in the old Bally's space?

The McDonald's there and in Downtown are all just awful to the maximum.

Are there any McDonald's anywhere in the country that aren't just awful?
