Well it is MUCH cheaper to live there in EVERY way. Sure Miami is expensive to live well, but you can live so cheap there. There are not two sides in this case. Florida can grow. PA? Losing TONS of population due to corruption from the left. They are killing us.

Yes, I agree that the bad weather in PA in the winter is just a Liberal conspiracy to make Trump look bad. [/s]

You get what you pay for, as with anything else in life.

It’s cheap to live in West Virginia too.

PA is very unwelcoming for any sort of growth. Second highest fuel tax. Turnpike fees going up every year and it going automated so there will be no one working there at some point, so less jobs. Huge state taxes. Massive taxes on booze of all types and the list goes on and on. Our state runs on its own and has nothing to do with Trump other than him giving out one heck of a lot of grants to our city. Just google federal grant Pittsburgh growth and have a look. Trump has been very good to Pittsburgh. No one dare be thankful for it of course.

Our population decline is on us as a state and how we run things. Not very well.

in all fairness, u are correct about federal funds helping out this area.

tax on booze - who cares? there is no boycott, exactly. if you want alcohol or cigarettes, tough, pay the tax. so if Fetterman gets his way and recreational pot is legalized, in ten years will people complain about the excessive taxes on THAT?

turnpike fees - gg, for its traffic, use, and wear, tolls were probably very LOW for decades. yes, they go up, but its pay as you go, actually a logical system.

second highest fuel tax -again, pay as you go (albeit indirectly). if you drive, you typically will use state highways, and contribute to their damage. so, fuel taxes pay for that. no problem here.

i dont care if its the right or the left on here - people are just inconsistent, always arguing but inconsistent with their actual arguments. (not picking on you specifically, gg).

Our fuel tax is cheap.

Germany has some of the best roads in the world. Their fuel taxes are E0.6545 per liter plus a 19% VAT, or nearly $3.65 per gallon.

Our state tax is $0.58 per gallon.

You want nice things, you gotta pay for them.

Wow. Let's look at things a bit. Super high fuel prices like we have will discourage growth for any industry that requires moving product or people. Try and digest the amount of businesses that move product or require fuel. This increases costs of goods to be delivered and puts PA at a big disadvantage compared to neighboring states. I am sure some are able to fuel in other more welcoming and pro business states, but that leads to companies moving out of state. These costs add to product destination costs, so if a competitor is in a more business friendly state, the PA business is at a huge disadvantage. You think it is nothing, but it could mean $100's of thousands for some industries if not more. It is very significant, but if you look at just yourself, it is no big deal. I can assure you it is a huge deal in business.

The booze taxes DO impact restaurants and bar business. Like it or not people can afford what they can afford. I stopped drinking out as it is nuts how much alcohol costs. Therefore, it had an impact on businesses. This isn't huge, but you certainly remember the Onorato Tax that our county deals with and you saw how upset restaurant owners were. They understand their business and don't want to lose their business. It is more unwelcoming for growth. I don't think the restaurant industry is going to really make a big comeback even after this is over. Trends change and people seem to be enjoying dining in and having a much cheaper and better bottle of wine.

I think you aren't looking at big business enough and how all these taxes have such a huge effect. Then our state income tax on top of it all. PA is lousy really, but it is home. It is crazy bad for big business. You know the businesses that provide jobs so people can have a nice living.
