based on current economic trends the local homeless situation is only going to get worse

Number of people living chronically homeless in Allegheny County hits 12-year high

https://www.post-gazette.com/local/c...s/202206140100

"The number of people experiencing chronic homelessness in Allegheny County hit a 12-year high this year, according to data from the county’s Point-in-Time homelessness count.

The county reported at least 284 individuals in 2022 were experiencing chronic homelessness, where a person with a disabling condition has been experiencing homelessness for at least one total year. This year’s census report shows a jump in chronically homeless people, spiking from the 183 individuals counted in 2020 and the 111 people counted in 2019.

Advocates said the rise in people experiencing chronic homelessness is the result of the economic fallout of the pandemic which has led to layoffs and left fewer affordable housing options across the county."

no problem - giant eagle and echo realty are planning a new 232 unit apartment building in shadyside so if a few of these souls don't mind having a roommate, problem solved

Could a food shortage be coming? Record diesel prices are crushing Pa. farmers, lawmakers told

https://www.mcall.com/news/pennsylva...6e4-story.html

"That’s about all he could do, he said, because the crushing reality of record diesel fuel prices is pushing farmers to the brink and may affect food availability.

“We have reached that point to where it is very close to being a sinking ship,” Kotzmoyer, a legislative affairs specialist for the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, testified to state lawmakers Tuesday. “We are teetering on the edge right now.”"

They'll just borrow differently: Banks brace for rising rate reaction

https://www.bizjournals.com/pittsbur...ing-rates.html

"The Federal Reserve on Wednesday raised interest rates 75 basis points to a range of 1.5% to 1.75%. Effective Thursday, the prime lending rate rose from 4% to 4.75% at Pittsburgh’s biggest banks. That includes PNC Financial Services Group Inc., Citizens Financial Group, KeyCorp, Huntington Bancshares and Dollar Bank.

The Fed’s action, which was the biggest increase made in a single meeting in 41 years, means borrowers will pay more. More hikes are coming. Soon."

or they won't borrow at all

I make more than PNC’s executives, but generally, I understand they’re good people and support their stances.

Don’t like it? Apply.
