"Spiraling inflation and flat Medicaid reimbursement levels are staggering Pennsylvania’s 700 nursing homes, with one Butler County operator predicting that a third of the facilities could be pushed out of business by the crisis.

In 39 years, this is the worst staff crisis I’ve seen, the worst economic crisis,”

But nursing home operators say the sting is worse in their industry because reimbursement for a rising number of patients doesn’t cover costs and has been flat for six years."
Ah the unintended consequences of reckless spending and war. What will they do under food shortages?

why buy a 5 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom house on 2 acres for $2 million

when you could buy a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom downtown apartment for the same price?

More people choosing mass transit as gas prices remain high

https://triblive.com/local/westmorel...nd-amid-5-gas/

"Westmoreland County Transit Authority has experienced a 30% increase in bus ridership since gas prices started climbing, said Ashley Cooper-Brounce, the authority’s deputy director.

“We just recently looked at the last three months — March, April and May — compared to the same months in 2021. We really noticed the uptick around the beginning of March when gas prices really started increasing,” she said, adding that WCTA expects ridership to continue to go up."

I love cars…and not everyone is in the position to be able to take mass transit even if they wanted to…but walking and riding bicycles, electric scooters, etc…, is better for the environment than mass transit.

Some Pittsburgh-area employers lift pay in the face of inflation. But is it enough?

https://www.wesa.fm/economy-business...t-is-it-enough

"With the inflation rate at a 41-year high, some Pittsburgh-area employers report they’re paying more to help workers manage the rising cost of living. But amid mounting economic uncertainty, the extra money generally hasn't closed the gap completely.

Carnegie Mellon University announced two weeks ago that it would give employees one-time $1,500 payments. Staff at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary received bonuses this month that equal between 4% and 6% percent of their annual salary. Meanwhile, roughly 45,000 Pennsylvania state employees were awarded up to $1,000 in retention pay."

Greater demand, rise in maintenance costs drive Western Pennsylvania rent increases

https://triblive.com/local/regional/...ent-increases/

"Average rents in the Pittsburgh region have increased during the pandemic, and reports indicate certain areas are rising faster than others.

A report from real estate research firm CoStar Group showed Pittsburgh-area rents increased about 6% from the start of 2020 to March 2022, which was slower than the 11.3% national rate CoStar found during that time. CoStar said March average rent in the Pittsburgh region was $1,139, and the group gathered data from multifamily units in counties with more than 1,000 multifamily housing units.

Another report from real estate group Redfin showed rents might continue to increase moving into summer. Redfin reported rents in the Pittsburgh metro area have increased 15.5% since May 2021, which is in line with the national rent increase rate."

Everything is emotional with them. It's cult-like behavior.
