It's about that time for all the markets to start getting active. I enjoy farm markets, it seems to be the only way to really see some of the real local items I never seem to come across otherwise.

I was curious everyone's favorite markets? My wife has worked Bloomfield for several years so I am familiar there and its been our favorite. It seems the ones out west of the city by us are always smaller, nothing exciting.

For more permanent farm market, a Farm's market, I think Harvest Valley Farms has a nice smaller shop with nice products we like to hit up a few times over the summer. Raisin cookies are really good.

Every year, I want to visit the Bridgeville original farmers market but I never do because it's only open on Friday evenings.

You can get fresh produce year round at Trax Market near Library. They grow in greenhouses during the winter.

Yeah weekday markets are hard unless its in your community. We used to have one nearby but they kept moving locations each year so it never could get established then gone after 4 years. I had not seen Trax, I'll have to make a trip one weekend.

I enjoy farmer's markets as well. Stanton Heights has a little produce farm tucked away on a hill side. I enjoy shopping for seedlings and varieties of peppers. The Highland Park, Northside, East Liberty and Market Square farmer's markets are my favorite sites.

I never saw the East Liberty market. Its been around a long time but still seems pretty small? Does it get pretty busy?

Yes it does. Not sure of where it moved to as the previous site was developed into housing. I am sure the farmers market moved somewhere in the circle.

Most city farmers markets are smaller. The Swissvale farmers market is very nice as well. The Swissvale Farmers Market includes local crafts and wines. You can also swap or pay for locally grown cut flowers, seedlings and perennials.

I do wish we had somewhere permanent like Columbus. I always had wanted them to turn the strip into something similar. Glad its being used now but feels like a nicer, generic strip mall.

I prefer the weekly setups and changing location. I enjoy the Strip District because of its old school urban setting. I like to stroll along the street in the city on nice days.

I’m not a fan of Columbus.

I recall an Aspinwall farmers market but haven’t been in that area for some years.

Cranberry has a farmers market on Friday’s and there’s a great food/vegetable vendor set up everyday during the spring/summer in the Rowan Rd/Rt.19 plaza along with a food truck, another food vendor, and coffee vendor.

Aspinwall hasn't really had anything for a while. I only know because Freedom Farms sells there as a pop-up and are currently trying to restart a farm market there, they asked my wife but its only them. Great for produce but thats about all.

I will need to check out the Cranberry sometime, we do most our shopping up there anyway. They are putting in a big new meat market up the road from that farm market, Henry's Meat Market. I had not heard of them but they have a long time shop north with a big following. It will be nice to have a real meat market nearby, its a really nice build. I took a tour last week, all new from the ground up.
