I actually thought Downtown was improving slightly with the developments of Piatt Place, Market Square, and Bakery Square?

Does anybody know anything about these developments?

Bakery Square isn't downtown, it's in E. Liberty. Well, technically Larimer, I guess.

LIGHT RAIL. It shouldn't take me 2 hours to get from Morningside to Squirrel Hill on public transit.

And while we're dreaming... yes, I would love a Crate and Barrel in Ross Park Mall! Or even better -- Waterworks! On second thought, if I lived 2 miles from a C&B I would be very very very VERY poor!
Agreed on the Light Rail. Efforts should be made to create a light rail from Oakland to downtown Pittsburgh. You will draw people to downtown Pittsburgh to live. The doctors/lawyers professionals will want to live in downtown because it's close to universities. Downtown will become vibrant. You will have upscale shops and more economic activity, it will not become a ghost town after 7pm. But that would take a pro-business mentality that the political "leadership" in this city wouldn't stand for.

Sadly, number 4 may happen in 100 years, and it will be the only one.
Amen and hallelujah...couldn't agree with you more.

dickens Giant Eagle needs some competition from Wegmans. Why doe GE have a monopoly here? Wegman's produce is the only reason I shopped there while living in Rochester and Baltimore. It is cheap and fresh. GE not so much.....
I would like to see the Fresh Market somewhere in the South Hills area. This is a specialty grocery store that started in Greensboro, NC, and somehow has not found its way into SW PA. I went there once a week while living in NC.

I would also like to see another major grocery store so I can have another choice besides Giant Eagle. Ex: Safeway, Giant (NOT Wal-Mart Supercenter). Giant Eagle DOES have a de facto monopoly in this area and people don't seem to mind the horrible customer service, bad sales and limited selection of different brands.

Also would love for PA to become a "red state" and for citizens of SW PA to vote for people who aren't "good democrats".

Would like a 24-7 Spanish network in Pittsburgh like Telemundo...

In order for all this to happen 2 & 3 above will have to happen...the "yinzer" mentality has
to go an catch up with the rest of the country...or at least the close-minded aspects
of it...

I'd like an Indian or Japanese restaurant to move into my neighborhood. And this worked the last time I made a specific request (we talked about how it would be nice if a French or Italian bistro-style place opened up, and then we got Legume).

More seriously, I agree that Pittsburgh's wonderful natural geography is currently underutilized. That includes the obvious like the riverfronts and Mt. Washington, but also some less obvious neighborhoods like the Hill and parts of Homewood.

I also agree about Pittsburgh needing to improve its public transit, but I would note I am less convinced about expanding the T than some. In part that is because I think the Busway approach to rapid public transit actually has some advantages in a place like Pittsburgh.

The sun.
My mom, who has lived in Pittsburgh all of her life, would like a Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in the North Hills (not in Cranberry). Both parents would appreciate a wider selection of wine -- right now, they stock up at the Total Wine store in northern Virginia on their visits to us.
And while a nicer Mount Washington would be very nice, remember that this has historically been a solidly working-class community, and gentrification would displace many of the long-time residents.

Hey, I was around when the Pirates won the series in 1960. (Was in elementary school) It was a great feeling! Almost as good as seeing my daughter graduate from college years later. Seriously, I think #4 will happen before the others, sadly.
