I need some advice. My son who is 22 will be attending Beaver Falls Community college. His 22 year old girlfriend will be going along with him, as well as their son, who is scheduled to be born August 7th (this story is for another time!!). I am scared to death for these 3. Does anyone have any ideas where they can rent a place? They have a dog too. My son will be working at the Pittsburgh airport while attending college. Right now they live in Virginia and needless to say I am very concerned, worried and losing lots of sleep over this. Thanks for your help.

The area is safe. They are old enough to make it in the world. They will be fine. Often it's better for children to go off elsewhere on their own. It forces them to grow up and be responsible. As for rentals, sometimes it's best to drive around and look for "for rent" signs. Often landlords don't advertise rental properties here. The best places are usually found by stumbling upon them. In the meantime, he could post an ad on in the 'housing wanted' section of Craig's List. It's truly better to come here to look for housing. He could end up paying more money than necessary otherwise.

Default problem solved

I used to live in Rochester, Pa (Ten minutes from both campus) and I attended CCBC for Air Traffic Control. The area that the airport is in is very safe, also the places he would live in that are close are good areas. Parts of Beaver Falls have some pretty bad areas but the airport and aviation center are actually located in chippewa. Sunny hill apartments ard york square gardens are the apartments that most of the students stay in. I dont remember their pet policy. But overall he will be fine. Plus Pittsburgh is a great place to have a good time, lived here my whole life here and I am sad to be moving to ok city for my final faa training. Good luck

I grew up in Beaver Falls, agree with burghboy. The couple might want to consider giving their dog to you (as a parent of 20 somethings myself, I hate to say that) or someone else until they have things figured out. Many apt owners do not allow pets, large pets, dogs, cats, etc, as I'm sure you know.

As to burghboy, OK City may be better than you think. I have some relatives from PA who lived in the vicinity and actually liked it, thought it was nice and sunny.

Will your son be attending the Community College of Beaver County....located in Center Twp/Monaca? Perhaps in the aviation program? I would suggest he either try to live in Chippewa near the airport where most of his classes will be held or in Center Township...which is closer to the main college campus and inbetween the county airport and Pittsburgh airport. Both areas are safe. They will have an easier time trying to find a place to rent without the dog. Contact a local realtor who handles rentals...such as Bovard Anderson or CJ Betters for assistance. Hope this helps!

Default Anknee, your son moving to Pittsburgh/Beaver Falls area

Hello from Beaver Falls,PA. I have lived here over 25 years. I do not live in
downtown Beaver Falls but North Sewickley. It is more rural than other parts.
Since I know the area pretty well along with Beaver County in general I would
like to make a few recommendations. First, go to the website of timesonline.com---it is our local newspaper and it will have a classified section that lists rentals for apartments, houses/mobile homes etc.
various rates/phone numbers and if they allow pets are listed many times.
If they want more towards Pittsburgh itself than look up Pittsburgh Post gazette.
Beaver County in general is a pretty safe place to live. Once on Route 60
you can easily get to downtown Pittsburgh, the Ohio and West Virginia lines,
Lawerence and butler county etc. Kind of centrally located to many areas
and only about 6 hours from Woodbridge VA. My brother and his family use to
live in VA. You can also go to Beaver County PA.com and see some of the
things offered in our area. Pittsburgh has many fine arts and entertainment
bearing in mind, any place you live can have some areas you would want to stay away from luckily they are few here. People in our area have a wide
variety of personalities like anywhere else but general good down to earth folks. Many colleges and universities, hospitals, schools, Churches, and many
other events throughout our areas. I must say when my family visited in
VA for about a month I found people in the VA area very aggressive and
quite bold about things. Driving was something as your speed limits are alot
higher than ours (at least for now). I did not find people in the area I visited in VA very warm or helpful. That is not to say they are not-just didn't really run into any! In Patterson Township and other areas in Beaver
Falls some Landlords do allow Pets. C.J. Betters rents places out that allows pets. There again, depends on which areas of Beaver Falls, or Beaver County
they are chosing or even in Allegheny county--some allow pets and depends
on what they are looking for in a price range as well. Right now there is a mobile home ( I think double wide) in the paper that says nice yard, allows pets and close to Beaver Valley mall half way between Beaver Falls and Pittsburgh. About $400 a month plus utilities. Close to alot and even
main highway. I certainly can relate to what you are going through as I am in a similiar situation about son leaving to go on his own as well. Guess we
can look at doing a fine job of child rearing and now able to become a responsible and capable young adult. But we sure miss them regardless
If I can help you further give me a post and I will try to do my best.
Good luck to all of you
Emerald in Beaver Falls PA
