Austin, Nashville, New Orleans?

Really depends on what aspect you're speaking of as the area is a completely different place for a few hrs on Fri & Sat nights then the rest of the time.

I was thinking the same thing. Charlottesville, Roanoake... I'd look for a smaller city with a college. Places like Chapel Hill, NC have gotten more expensive but the smaller towns, with smaller schools, are probably much more manageable.

Carson Street is probably more comparable to Richmond's Shockoe Bottom than it is to 6th Street or Bourbon Street. Honestly, it's probably not even on that level.
