Diamond Market's menu definitely has a Pittsburgh twist, if you know what to look for. This could be a good "tourist" option for Market Square.

This was also interesting to me, albeit not so much about Downtown:

Chef Keith Fuller of Root174, Regent Square, is lending his kitchen and dining room to friend and fellow chef Justin Severino on Oct. 9 for a Taste of Cure, a preview of Mr. Severino's restaurant opening in Lawrenceville. The evening will begin with a reception at 6 p.m., with passed hors d'oeuvres and a Boyd & Blair cocktail, followed by a four-course dinner with beer pairings at 6:30. The dinner will be vegetarian-friendly; $65 per person; 412-243-4348.
I've praised Severino's charcuterie at Elements before, and I am looking forward to Cure, and it is nice to see our younger, creative chefs helping each other out.

Also from their webpage:

A special mix of Classic Cocktails, plus a large selection of fine bourbons and wines by the glass, is complimented by Market Square's largest array of draft beers with an emphasis on craft beers.
I'm still "meh" when it comes to their beer selection, but I love the fact that Market Square has officially gotten to the point where it means something to say you have the Xiest something in Market Square.

Also, in matching a $25,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission, Landmarks will study the larger area to consider adding more buildings to the National Register of Historic Places.

Ravenstahl said the city would continue to promote historic preservation as an economic development tool in the Golden Triangle.
That reminded me to wonder what is going on with the Forbes side of the PNC Tower project. Interestingly the recent office/theater project announced for East Liberty plans to do more or less what I would like to see PNC do with those facades..

I've heard from Italian friends that La Cucina is one of the best there is in PGH.

Saks is closing downtown location.

I wonder if they will try to relocate to Ross Park or leave the area entirely. It's sad that there is only one department store in downtown (and that one is downsizing), but I'm glad the city didn't give in to their demands and give them public money to upgrade the place. We saw how well that worked out with Lazarus and Lord & Taylor.

Saks was hit pretty hard early the recession and has already closed stores in San Diego, Portland, and Charleston, SC, and Denver (I think, but not sure), so this isn't a huge surprise. Plus the Pittsburgh high-end retail scene seems to be centered now at Ross Park Mall, which left Saks kind of out of the loop.

And I agree that they should have worked with the landlord on a deal and not brought the city into it.
