Hi folks,

I'm wondering what two-income families in Mt. Lebanon do as far as after-school care for school-aged children. Are there partial-day nanny services? Many stay-at-home-parents who are willing to pick up children who attend the same school as theirs and watch them until the parents return home?

I'm at a loss! Our children aren't in school yet, so it just occurred to me that I have no idea how people handle this, in Mt. Lebanon or otherwise (except by convincing the grandparents to move to town!).

Thanks

Ok, I feel silly -- I just discovered the Mt. Lebanon Extended Day Care program: Welcome to the Mt. Lebanon Extended Day Program

Looks great, but if anyone knows of other options I'd still be very interested in hearing them.

Back in the day, mom would stay home while dad worked and provided for the entire family out of his salary.

The kids turned out better behaved and more well rounded individuals.

That is one reason why unemployment hovers somewhere around 10 to 12 and that is just the ones that are still eligible for unemployment.

If the women would stay home - we would have twice as many jobs available and the employers would have to pay their employee's more money - hence a livable wage.

People are so eager to scratch out a living for themselves and they want to be independent and they want everything right now and the short term gains of a two income family outweighs the cost of paying someone to take care of your kids while you go to work.

The truth is - in my opinion that I wouldn't want someone that was willing to work for $1 a hour per a kid taking care of my children and I would have thought about that before I made them.

What you are going to find is that the people willing to take care of your kids - are probably going to charge you just as much to take care of your children per a hour as what you make going to work. Then you got to wonder - why am I killing myself trying to make a couple of extra pennies - while someone else stays at home and makes just as much as I do - just taking care of kids.

Don't blame the progression of society for your bad career choice. If your life sucks - then you suck. Man up.

In your opinion, some of us were raised by Mom's only and did OK.

Why can't dad stay at home to raise the children?

LOL. When I told my husband I had posted this, he said, "I bet you're going to get a barely literate troll complaining about women who work."

Hello, my name is caroline, I make a fortune, and my kids are lovely and delightful. Life is good here in the 21st century.

Especially since statistics show that today's women are better educated and in many cases making better salaries than their male counterparts. Feeling that one parent should stay home is fine, but assuming that it automatically has to be the wife is not.

We live in Mt. Lebo...Many people use the extended day program here...There are also many parents who will take care of other's kids until they come home. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about the extended day program.
